Schilling criticizes Ocasio-Cortez, provoking Cicilline

Former Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling has gone after Rep-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Twitter, drawing the ire of US Rep David Cicilline.

Ocasio-Cortez, 29, tweeted that her ideas are being scrutinized because of her age.

‘Double standards are Paul Ryan being elected at 28 and immediately being given the benefit of his ill-considered policies considered genius; and me winning a primary at 28 to immediately be treated with suspicion & scrutinized, down to my clothing, of being a fraud,’ Ocasio-Cortez wrote.

Schilling then responded to her tweet, saying she’s being scrutinized because she says stupid things.

‘No. You are being scrutinized and treated with suspicion because every time you speak you say something more stupid than the last time you spoke,’ he tweeted.

‘You are a college graduate and likely the most unintelligent person, man or woman, in our government,’ Schilling added.

Schilling’s comments then provoked a comment from Cicilline, of Rhode Island, who defended Ocasio-Cortez.

‘Curt, you still owe my state $75 million. Maybe worry about that before you go after again…’ Cicilline tweeted.

In response, Schilling claimed that he doesn’t owe the state any money.

‘And the state screwed the deal because they keep electing asshats like you. A chip off the Lincoln Chaffee block,’ he tweeted at Cicilline.

In 2010, Rhode Island invested $75million to lure Schilling’s video game company, 38 Studios, from Massachusetts.

The company ran out of money and went bankrupt.

Rhode Island sued and recouped some money. The case has been settled.

Since her election, Ocasio-Cortez has faced criticism from multiple people, including Kellyanne Conway who took aim at the Democrat on Tuesday.

The White House counselor slammed the incoming lawmaker, calling her ‘this 29-year-old congresswoman who doesn’t seem to know much about anything’.

Her put down of the progressive star, who became a national figure when she beat New York Rep Joe Crowley in their primary campaign, came a day after Ocasio-Cortez accused outgoing White House Chief of Staff John Kelly of ‘cowardice’.

Conway began with a defense of Kelly before she turned her fury on Ocasio-Cortez.

‘He is in his fifth decade of public service and this country owes him a debt of gratitude, not the nonsense that’s been spewed about him even recently from the left and from this 29-year-old congresswoman who doesn’t seem to know much about anything when you ask her basic concepts about the economy, the Middle East, military funding, really embarrassing,’ Conway said on Fox & Friends.

‘And for her to even use a slur against him yesterday and I won’t repeat of name of the slur but let me stand up for General John Kelly, he’s done a magnificent job for this country for almost 50 years and that includes here at the White House as our chief of staff for about a year and a half,’ Conway added.

On Monday, Ocasio-Cortez said Kelly should apologize to Rep Frederica Wilson, who, in remarks at the White House, he called an ’empty barrel’ and accused her of grandstanding at a Florida event by taking credit for securing federal funding for a new building.

His attack proved to be inaccurate.

‘John Kelly was straight up exposed for lying about @RepWilson in comments aimed at discrediting her,’ she wrote on Twitter on Monday. ‘He absolutely owes her an apology, and his refusal to do so isn’t a sign of strength – it’s cowardice.’

Critics have leaped on several misstatements from the incoming lawmaker.

In a July, Ocasio-Cortez called Israel’s presence in the West Bank, a Palestinian territory, as an ‘occupation.’ She later walked back the comment.

In November, former Alaska Gov Sarah Palin slammed Ocasio-Cortez when the incoming congresswoman said there were three chambers of Congress (there are two: the House and the Senate).

She tried to correct herself.

‘If we work our butts off to make sure that we take back all three chambers of Congress – Uh, rather, all three chambers of government: the presidency, the Senate, and the House,’ Ocasio-Cortez said.

But her correction was incorrect: the three chambers of government are the White House, Congress, and the Supreme Court.

Last week, Ocasio-Cortez hit out at Donald Trump Jr with the not-so subtle reminder that she will be ‘a member of a body that will have subpoena power in a month’, after he posted a meme implying that socialists eat dogs.

Trump Jr took time out of his day to upload the meme to Instagram that he found to be particularly ‘funny cuz it’s true!!!’

The meme featured a picture of Ocasio-Cortez speaking with media, paired with the words: ‘Why are you so afraid of a socialist economy?’

Beneath that, there was a picture of President Trump wagging his finger at a podium and the text: ‘Because Americans want to walk their dogs, not eat them.’

The meme is said to be trying to draw a connection between Ocasio-Cortez’s political beliefs and reports coming out of Venezuela that dogs, cats and zoo animals are being eaten by residents due to the country’s corruption and its socialist policies that have failed, the Вашингтон пост пријавио.
