Boris Johnson wears rented Oliver Brown suit to COP26 summit

Boris Johnson took a leaf out of his wife Carrie’s book by renting a suit to wear to the opening day of the COP26 summit in Glasgow yesterday.

The Prime Minister, 57, addressed fellow world leaders wearing a £495 Oliver Brown suit, which can be hired from My Wardrobe HQ for £34 per day.

His eco-conscious wife, 33, is famously a fan of renting her outfits – and even used a rental service on her wedding day earlier this year.

It is thought Boris would use his 'secret weapon' Carrie, who has been championing sustainable fashion, in his bid to charm world leaders into taking action to stop climate change at the summit. She is pictured in a rented dress at the G2O summit in Rome on Saturday

Rock a red Zara blazer like Carrie

We’ve spotted Carrie Johnson wearing hired high-end labels like Roksanda, The Vampire’s Wife and Amanda Wakeley for big occasions, but she can’t get enough of affordable label Zara right now.

In particular, this double-breasted blazer which she wore at the COP26 in Rome with braided kitten heels, also by the Spanish brand. Proof that you really can’t go wrong with a bit of high street!

A colour pop blazer is a perfect way to update your workwear wardrobe for autumn, and we love the smart embossed buttons on this jacket.

It’s available in blue and camel, too, if you want to stock up, so click through now. Or rock a similar red blazer from our round-up of alternatives.

In the carousel, you’ll also find her Philippa Herbert necklace, personalised with her son Wilfred’s fingerprint. Plus rent her De La Vali dress and shop her Grace Han bag!

For the trip to Glasgow, Mr Johnson opted for a grey single-breasted suit with a classic-fitted cut, is made of cloth is sourced from British mills, and features a canvassed chest-piece and four button working cuffs.

Carrie, who is pregnant with her second child with the Prime Minster, reportedly pays £9.99 a month membership to the website My Wardrobe HQ, which allows her to supplement her day-to-day high-street outfits with designer pieces.

The service has been described as a ‘private members’ club for the fashion world’.

A source close to My Wardrobe HQ said in 2019: ‘Carrie loves eco fashion so borrowing clothes for special occasions means they aren’t just left hanging in her wardrobe and rarely worn. One dress can go a long way.’

In May, the mother-of-one tied the knot in a stunning boho-chic gown by Greek designer Christos Costarellos, which costs £2,870 new – but just £45 a day from My Wardrobe HQ.

Carrie hired another three decoy gowns from the eco fashion business to allegedly throw snoops off the scent ahead of her and Boris Johnson’s big day, with the company only finding out they supplied the UK first lady’s dress when they saw the photos.

My Wardrobe HQ founder and CEO Sacha Newall told The Telegraph shortly after the wedding they’d had around 250 enquiries about bridal rentals.

‘We’ve had a massive surge in rental enquiries, especially relating to bridalwear,’ she said.

‘Now that Carrie has championed it as a sustainable option, it’s just going to grow and grow. This could be transformative.’

Eco-conscious Carrie then hired multiple pieces for the G7 summit in June in Cornwall – two collections from dress hire companies My Wardrobe HQ and Hurr Collective were delivered before the summit.

It is thought Boris would use his ‘secret weapon’ Carrie, who has been championing sustainable fashion, in his bid to charm world leaders into taking action to stop climate change at the summit.

On Saturday at the G20 summit in Rome, Carrie wore a red rose patterned dress by Spanish designer De La Vali, hired for £53 from clothing rental company Hurr paired with a £59 blazer from Zara.

She also donned a £210 gold necklace featuring her son Wilfred’s fingerprint London-based jeweller Philippa Herbert and was a Christmas present from husband Boris last year.

She completed her look with a pair of red slingback kitten heels, which she bought a few years back, also from Zara.
