The heir to the throne wore a smart tweed blazer, waistcoat and a crisp white shirt to finish the heritage look, alongside maroon socks and black brogues.

Meanwhile, Camilla opted for a black, grey and red check, which she wore in a knee-length skirt covered with an elegant frilled cream blouse and grey waistcoat. She complemented the skirt with a matching shawl.

Prince Charles has been wearing the Balmoral tartan since his early childhood, with photos showing him wearing it as far back as his seventh birthday in 1955.

Earlier this month, the royal wore the same outfit to visit the historic stronghold of Dunrobin Castle, the most northerly of Scotland’s great houses. The Prince also visited Dunrobin Castle Station, where he marked the 150th anniversary of the Duke of Sutherland’s Railway by unveiling a plaque.
