Alan Dershowitz says he thought ex-friend Larry David was ‘going to have a stroke’ during argument

Alan Dershowitz said he thought Larry David – a good friend for 25 years – was ‘going to have a stroke’ during their screaming match because the comedian was so out of control.

Their long friendship went up in flames outside a Martha’s Vineyard general store because David took offense to Dershowitz patting former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on the back, the famed lawyer said.

‘There I was having a cup of coffee with a friend on the porch of the Chilmark (General Store), and Larry starts screaming at me,’ Dershowitz told Newsmax on Thursday.

‘He couldn’t control himself. I thought he was going to have a stroke. It was terrible.

‘I was all these horrible, horrible things. And the reason was because I patted on the back Mike Pompeo.’

Pompeo is one of Dershowitz’s former Harvard law students, and the two worked together on a number of projects.

‘Of course I’m going to pat him on the back and congratulate him for the work he has done,’ Dershowitz said. ‘But that wasn’t enough for Larry David.’

Dershowitz – a liberal who voted for Biden – told Newsmax that his feud with David started when defend Donald Trump during his first impeachment hearing in January 2020. ‘

Dershowitz told the comedian, ‘We can still talk, Larry’, to which David replied, ‘No, no. We really can’t. I saw you. I saw you with your arm around Pompeo! It’s disgusting!

‘You’re whole enclave – it’s disgusting. You’re disgusting!’

The longtime lawyer and professor said this fight with David is microcosm of a larger societal issue where ‘you have to choose sides’ and if you diverge ‘for one second,’ friends and supporters leave.

There’s no friendly debate anymore, he said.

And David hasn’t been the only one who cast Dershowitz to the side after defending Trump.

Dershowitz said he was ‘canceled’ by the Chilmark library, where he spoke every year, the Chilmark Community Center and the Chilmark Hebrew Center.

‘This is pure and simple McCarthyism when you start blaming the lawyer because you don’t agree with the client,’ he said.

‘But Larry David just isn’t quite up to understanding that distinction between supporting somebody politically and defending the constitution.’

After David stormed off, Dershowitz took off his T-shirt to reveal another shirt underneath that read, ‘It’s The Constitution Stupid!’

He referenced the T-shirt during the Newsmax interview and held it up to show everyone.

The two go way back, Dershowitz said. They were so close that he said he even helped get one of David’s daughters into college and once represented the comedian pro bono.

‘Larry is a knee-jerk radical,’ Dershowitz told The New York Post. ‘He takes his politics from Hollywood. He doesn’t read a lot. He doesn’t think a lot.’

Dershowitz said he’s willing to mend fences during his Newsmax interview but he won’t fight with David.

‘So, he’ll go on screaming at people. I’m not going to engage with him in a screaming match,’ Dershowitz said. ‘I’m relatively quiet. If he wants to have a conversation with me then hey, I’m a teacher. I’m happy to do that. But I’ll let him scream alone.’
