Pregnant woman, 23, killed while riding in pickup with ‘drunk’ boyfriend and boy, 10

A California man was drunk behind the wheel when he got into a three-car collision during a road rage incident on Saturday, killing his 23-year-old pregnant girlfriend and her eight-month-old unborn son, according to police.

Miguel Larios, 26, of Long Beach was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence.

According to Long Beach Police, Larios was behind the wheel of a 2006 GMC pickup truck driving southbound on Long Beach Boulevard with two passengers in the car – his pregnant girlfriend, Krista Nichols, and a 10-year-old child.

Investigators said that Larios was involved in a road rage incident with another vehicle that was trying to disengage.

The incident dragged on for several blocks. Eventually, Larios crashed into a third car, a 2004 Toyota Corolla, that was pulling away from the curb on Long Beach Boulevard just south of Mountain View Street.

According to police, Larios collided into the Toyota and lost control of his vehicle, causing him to strike a parked, unoccupied car near 52nd Street.

First responders arrived on the scene and rushed Larios, Nichols, and the 10-year-old child to the hospital.

Nichols, who was in the passenger seat of the car alongside Larios, and her unborn child died. Larios and the 10-year-old boy suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Larios was arrested and charged with two counts of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, one count of driving under the influence, and one count of child endangerment.

His bail has been set at $200,000.

So far, more than $10,000 has been raised. The crowdfunding effort’s goal is to reach $50,000.

The family is now angry at Larios who is alleged to have allowed a road rage incident get out of control. 

 ‘I don’t think chasing someone for blocks is any kind of way to resolve a dispute,’ according to Tyler.

‘I think if that road rage had been controlled and that anger had been suppressed, my sister would still be here.’

He added: ‘We’re just as lost as anyone else.’
