The gig comes after earlier this week Anne-Marie credited having therapy for helping her to normalise her ‘extreme’ thoughts and feelings.

The 2002 hit-maker recently revealed that she sought therapy during lockdown, after realising she was unhappy and struggling with self-esteem issues, and stresses of being in the spotlight.

During an appearance on ITV’s Lorraine on Monday, she explained that she always struggled with how extreme she thought her thoughts were, before speaking to a therapist and learning that how she was feeling was ‘normal’.

Her sessions inspired her to pen her new album, aptly named Therapy, and Anne-Marie revealed that by seeking help she was able to make sense of the inner voice in her head.

She told host Ranvir Singh: ‘I’ve always thought that my thoughts are very extreme and before they come out of my mouth, it’s like the worst thing that I could possibly say.’

Admitting she struggled to voice how she was feeling, Anne-Marie credited her therapy sessions for helping her to realise her thoughts aren’t as bad as she first thought.

‘Then as soon as I speak to my therapist… it’s like it’s actually normal how I feel,’ the singer said.

‘As soon as [your thoughts] comes out of your mouth it becomes normal, I think.’

She added: ‘For most people, music has been there for them at some point in their life. Writing [music] is very therapeutic for me.

‘Going to do actual therapy with a therapist helped me to write music from a different mindset.’

Anne-Marie also recalled a time when she had suffered from panic attacks and Ed Sheeran had been on hand to check in on her.

She described the singer as ‘one of the best people’ to have as a friend as she revealed: ‘The other day I had a panic attack and I emailed him. He said, ‘Are you okay? Do you want me to call?’ He is honestly incredible.

‘He is one of the best people to have in this industry as a friend.’

Anne-Marie’s TV appearance comes after she recently revealed she almost quit music after feeling so ‘unhappy’.

So much so, that she sat down with her manager and told told her she wanted to give up her career as a singer.

Admitting it was a horrible moment, The Voice coach told The Sun she was constantly crying: ‘I had no energy and no love for myself or anyone else.

‘I blamed everything on music. Music was my life, so I couldn’t disconnect the unhappiness in my life from that.’

She confessed she also felt guilty for earning large amounts of money from her music career when there were other people without it, and her biggest struggle was the pressures that come with being in the industry.

Lockdown helped to provide the star with the headspace and clarity she needed to continue with music, with Anne-Marie turning to therapy to help kickstart her creativity when it came to penning songs again.

Opening up to Metro’s Guilty Pleasures, Anne-Marie said she felt like an ‘a***hole’ for feeling unhappy when living a glamorous life in the spotlight.

She shared that worries she had over how people perceived her ‘impacted everything’ and she always ‘felt like everyone hated me’.

‘The stress of that made everything really heightened,’ she admitted.

As a result, she claims she would ‘overly compensate’ and try to be ‘really nice’ to people in order to make a good impression.

‘I couldn’t bear the thought of someone having something bad to say about me which is quite a bad headspace to be in in this industry.’

Finally plucking up the courage to speak to a therapist, Anne-Marie has now titled her latest studio album Therapy as it was inspired by the sessions she had last year.

It’s a follow up to her debut album, Speak Your Mind, released in 2018, and features collaborations with a whole host of stars including Little Mix, Niall Horan, KSI and Rudimental.
