After being pushed back by a year due to the outbreak of coronavirus, the Tokyo Olympics is finally here.
The Games will be like none other seen in the past, with fans prohibited from the venues with Tokyo under a fourth state of emergency.
With fans absent it’s the athletes that will take centre stage. And the action is now officially underway after the opening ceremony took place on Friday and 11 medal events on Saturday.
With the Olympics taking place in Japan, a large proportion of the action will take place between midnight and 3pm BST for UK viewers.
But not to worry, as Sportsmail will keep you up-to-date with all the latest news and updates right through until the closing ceremony on August 8.
Team GB wins THREE gold medals in five hours! Olympic triumph for divers Tom Daley and Matty Lee, swimmer Adam Peaty and cross country cyclist Tom Pidcock as Britain enjoys stunning day in Tokyo
Team GB had a sensational day in Tokyo on Monday as they claimed a string of Olympic medals. Alex Yee began the medal flurry as he began his first ever Olympic medal, claiming silver in the men’s triathlon. British swimmer Adam Peaty then made Olympic history by winning gold for the second time, before Tom Daley finally won his first Olympic gold alongside Matty Lee in the men’s synchronised 10m platform.
ROBOT basketball player throws perfect three-pointers – including a half-court shot – during incredible display at Tokyo Olympics
A 6ft 10ins robot basketball player – designed by Toyota and called Cue – wowed crowds at halftime during the Team USA vs France game at the Tokyo Olympics on Sunday. Moving itself around the court using motors in its shoes, the robot hit a shot from the free-throw line before stepping back into three pointer range and then managed to sink a basket from half court in an impressive display. Cue achieves the feat by using a range of sensors and 3D mapping technology to work out where the basket is before algorithms adjust motors in its arms and legs to achieve the perfect angle and apply just the right amount of force to make the shot.
BREAKING NEWS: Tom Daley FINALLY wins Olympic gold! Team GB diving star produces stunning display with Matty Lee to beat Chinese favourites in men’s synchronised 10m platform
Tom Daley knew opportunities were running out and so what a moment for him to win his first Olympic medal alongside Matty Lee in the men’s synchronised 10m platform. The 27-year-old took bronze in both 2012 and 2016 and may well have thought that was his ceiling as an Olympian. But both Daly and Lee refused to bow down to the Chinese favourites as they went toe-to-toe, forcing mistakes and eventually coming out on top.
Egyptian fencer Mohamed Elsayed celebrates his shock triumph over three-time world champion – and favourite for the gold medal – Yannick Borel by copying Cristiano Ronaldo’s iconic turn and shout in Tokyo
Elsayed, aged just 18, pulled off the stunning victory in the first-round of the epee event at the weekend and opted to toast his success in style. Having landed the final blow, the talented star promptly threw off his helmet before racing away to launch himself into the air, turn and then shout, just like Ronaldo. Borel is a three-time world champion and was heavily tipped to eliminate Elsayed before eventually clinching the gold medal. But despite winning gold at Rio 2016, he was instead on the wrong end of a shock result, and could only watch on as his gleeful opponent wheeled away. Riding on the wave of jubilation, teen Elsayed then defeated China’s Lan Minghao 15-9, but was eventually knocked out in the quarter-finals by Ukrainian Ihor Reizlin.
