TfL resumes normal Bakerloo Line service to Wembley

Transport for London (TfL) has resumed normal service on the Bakerloo Line after issuing an earlier warning there would be no trains running to Wembley Central tonight due to staff self-isolating.

Fans travelling to the Euro 2020 final were initially told the Bakerloo Line will stop running at 7pm on Sunday – just an hour before kickoff for England’s game against Italy – because of ‘a shortage of control centre staff who are having to self-isolate’ and advised all travellers to complete their journey by 5.30pm.

But TfL said it had now ‘managed to identify another controller to provide sufficient cover so the Bakerloo line service will run as normal.’

A spokesperson said: ‘If possible, we would still like to advise customers that all services to Wembley will be busy today and we anticipate delays to a number of our services.

‘We ask all supporters to please arrive at the ground early to avoid crowds and arrive in plenty of time for kick-off, to ensure you leave sufficient time to complete your journey and make sure you have planned your route home in the event of extra time or penalties.’

An estimated 60,000 fans are expected to fill Wembley Stadium tonight.

Fans can also use Wembley Park station, which is served by the Metropolitan and Jubilee Lines.

London Overground will stop at Wembley Central as normal, while Chiltern Railways will continue to operate to Wembley Stadium.

Following the earlier announcement, social media erupted over the issue, with some taking aim at Transport for London for not finding replacement staff in time.

Other users also exercised a healthy dose of humour and cynicism to discuss the matter on social media.
