She accessorised with a selection of chic jewellery and added a pair of large sun-glasses to ensure she could see everything during the match.

Wayne, who has been the England captain during his own impressive football career, also kept things causal for the fixture donning a blue shirt and white cap.

The Rooney boys – Klay, eight, and Kit, five – also embraced the national spirit as they sported white England shirts ahead of the match.

Wayne first played for England back in 2003 going on to be part of the Euro 2004 team. He was named captain in 2014 and retired from the national team in 2017 after scoring an impressive 53 goals.

The pro was also seen chatting to Jamie Redknapp, another former England player, while they waited for the game to start.

Jamie also made the game a family affair, bringing his youngest son Beau along for the day and sharing a snap of the 12-year-old with Wayne.

Also seen enjoying the build-up to kick off was DJ Tom Zanetti, who posted a snap showing himself enjoying a lunch with the pitch behind him.

‘Our squad is top level, and pressure builds character so get in and get the job done.’

Ahead of kick off, England players were booed by a section of fans as they took the knee ahead of their match against Croatia, despite impassioned pleas by the FA for support.

As was the case at the Riverside Stadium in England’s warm-up matches against Austria and Romania last week, some supporters made their feelings known with loud jeers echoing around Wembley, before they were drowned out by other supporters’ applause.

The boos came despite the Football Association begging the 22,500 supporters to get behind the gesture, saying it is not ‘aligned to a political organisation or ideology’ but is an act of ‘unity and fighting against inequality’.

There were also some cheers to be heard inside the stadium in north-west London, which helped to drown out the initial boos, clearly audible on BBC One where the game was being broadcast live to the nation.

Croatia’s players, meanwhile, opted to stand while England’s players knelt.

England had already made it clear they intended to take a knee before every one of their matches at the Euros and a video and statement released on the eve of their first game urged fans to support them.

The statement insisted that taking a knee isn’t political and isn’t linked to the Black Lives Matter movement, but is simply a stand against discrimination in all its forms.

The game is expected to see manager Gareth Southgate unleash an array of attacking talent against Croatia.

On Saturday, the England squad was seen rocking smart M&S suits for an official team photograph ahead of its first game.

Southgate appeared to have ditched his famous waistcoats for the Euro 2020 tournament after he sent sales of the garment soaring during the World Cup in 2018.

Photographs of the team’s final pre-tournament photoshoot at St. George’s Park show the England stars as they are decked out in navy suits with striped ties.
