Jeremy Clarkson admits he has been ‘drinking himself silly’ in lockdown on his farm in Oxfordshire

Jeremy Clarkson has admitted he is ‘the unfittest’ he’s ever been because he has been ‘drinking himself silly’ during lockdown

The former Top Gear presenter, 61, has spent the pandemic filming Clarkson’s Farm – his new Amazon Prime Video series – on his 1,000 acre farm in Oxfordshire, and he’s confessed to over-indulging on alcohol over recent months.

Jeremy, who has been helped by a local farmer named Caleb and his girlfriend Lisa Hogan, 46, told The Sun: ‘[Caleb] doesn’t drink really so I have to take up his slack. 12 months, Lisa and I have drank ourselves silly.

‘When you’re farming one of the joys is the sun going down and leaning on a fence and looking at your sheep or your crops or watch the changing of the seasons.

‘So has it made me fitter? No. And the other thing about farming is how automated it is, you never have to actually walk anywhere, you just drive everywhere it’s fantastic. I’m the unfittest I’ve ever been.’

Although Jeremy has owned Diddly Squat Farm since 2008, he’s only been running it for the past couple of years.

And on reflection, the outspoken TV star isn’t sure he’s made the right decision.

The former Top Gear presenter explained: ‘I thought “I can do that”.

‘I genuinely thought you put seeds in the ground, weather happens and food grows. So I thought “that’s not difficult”, it’s phenomenally difficult.’

Meanwhile, Jeremy recently revealed he fears he’ll die this year.

The presenter believes he could pass away sometime in 2021 after a number of his friends and family all met their maker when they turned 61.

He said: ‘Everyone I know dies at 61. All my friends did, my dad did, that’s when you go … If I make it to 62, I’ll be here forever.

‘When dad died, I thought of him as an old man, but I don’t feel old. When I see myself on screen I think, “Who’s that?” I always expect a 19 year old to be looking back at me. But old people don’t look like we think they should.’

His latest series captures an intense, backbreaking and frequently hilarious year in Jeremy’s life as he attempts to run his Diddly Squat Farm despite having no farming experience.

They contend with the worst farming weather in decades, disobedient animals, unresponsive crops, and an unexpected pandemic.

Jeremy quickly discovers that a modern farmer must be a conservationist, scientist, shepherd, shopkeeper, midwife, engineer, accountant and tractor driver, often at the same time.

Offering viewers a different side of the often outspoken presenter, Jeremy’s farm failures have real emotional consequences on the TV star.

Jeremy, completely out of his comfort zone, is forced to lean on others as he strives to grow crops, rear sheep and pull off environmental projects that are close to his heart.

The two-minute trailer for the show sees the car fanatic roaming around his sprawling grounds on a tractor, and at one point he even crashes the vehicle, exclaiming: ‘Oh, s**t,’ as he drives into the roof of a barn.

At one point, Jeremy attempts to round up a herd of sheep as an unimpressed member of his team asks: ‘Have you ever looked after sheep before?’

In another part of the trainer, an aerial shot of Jeremy’s farm reveals it has been flooded as the region is hit by ‘a month’s worth of torrential rain in a day’.

Jeremy also touches upon the coronavirus pandemic while talking to a member of his team, telling him: ‘I’m pushing 60, [and have] smoked a lot of cigarettes, if I get it…’

Before Jeremy can finish, the farmer interrupts: ‘Yeah, there’s not a lot of hope.’

As the trailer concludes, a voice over from Jeremy explains: ‘I am happy here. I’ve got a choice: I can either go back to London, and resume my old life..’

The TV star is once again interrupted by a team member, who interjects by saying: ‘Yeah, do that.’

The presenter has run the Diddly Squat Farm Shop in Cotswold’s village Chipping Norton with partner Lisa Hogan, 46, since 2020.

Lisa made a quick appearance in the trailer, however it is unclear whether Jeremy’s children – Emily, Katya and Finlo, from his marriage to second wife Frances Cain – will appear in the show.

Clarkson’s Farm will launch Friday June 11 on Amazon Prime Video
