Carrie Symonds dons boho organza tiered white gown and flower crown for wedding to Boris Johnson

Carrie Symonds opted for a £2,870 embroidered tulle white dress and a flower crown for her ‘secret wedding’ to Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Embracing boho chic, the mother-of-one, 33, looked stunning in the long tiered round-neck gown with floral embellishment and bell sleeves by Greek-based luxury designer Christos Costarellos.

Created as part of an exclusive bridal capsule, the ethereal gown is handmade from tiers of wispy ivory tulle spun with silk, while the latticework trims and hand-cut ‘Kopaneli’ corded lace appliqués are signatures of the atelier and woven using traditional Greek patterns.

Opting for natural make-up, the new First Spouse wore her long blonde locks in loose, tousled waves and completed the look with a vintage-style garland around her head adorned with white roses, daises and lily of the valley.

Founded in 1998, the house of Costarellos takes inspiration from ancient Greek mythology and produces feminine ready-to-wear dresses and timeless, romantic bridalwear, often adorned with floral appliqués and a young, bohemian edge.

By contrast, the prime minister wore a formal black suit with a white shirt and blue tie, adding a rose button-hole to match his wife’s headpiece.

This morning Downing Street confirmed the couple tied the knot yesterday afternoon in a ‘small ceremony’ at Westminster Cathedral after an extraordinary cloak-and-dagger operation to keep the event secret – with a bigger celebration planned for next summer.

The confirmation comes after aides spent hours refusing to comment on the Catholic service, which was conducted in deep secrecy before being revealed by the Mail on Sunday. Despite the evasion, ministers, Tory MPs and Labour leader Keir Starmer have been openly congratulating the premier on his nuptials.

A Downing Street spokesman said: ‘The Prime Minister and Ms Symonds were married yesterday afternoon in a small ceremony at Westminster Cathedral. The couple will celebrate their wedding with family and friends next summer.’

The couple released a photograph this morning taken in the garden of 10 Downing Street after their wedding.

Carrie says I Do in a Costarellos wedding gown

Your nuptials may be looking a little different at the moment, but that doesn’t mean your dress for the big day can’t be just as glamorous.

We didn’t need to tell Carrie Symonds that as she married Boris Johnson in this jaw-dropping gown by Costarellos. Seriously, we can’t get over how beautiful the dress is; if it was us, we wouldn’t want to take it off.

Crafted from an ivory tulle silk blend, the dress boasts a tiered skirt, fitted bodice and bell sleeves. However, what truly makes this dress stand out is the latticework trims and corded lace appliqué.

Carrie’s dress was designed by Christos Costarellos himself exclusively for NET-A-PORTER but has now sold out.

Instead, click (right) to get a closer look at Carrie’s beautiful gown before saying I Do to a look-alike from the edit. All budgets are covered with Self-Portrait, Galvan, Monsoon and Asos.

Mr Johnson, 56, exchanged vows with Ms Symonds in Catholic Westminster Cathedral in front of a handful of close friends and family – becoming the first Prime Minister to marry in office since Lord Liverpool married Mary Chester in 1822.

It comes just six days after the couple – who became engaged on the Caribbean island of Mustique in December 2019 and have baby Wilfred, aged one – sent out save-the-date cards to guests telling them to keep Saturday, July 30, 2022 free for a marriage celebration.

Despite sending out the cards, the couple are understood to have been secretly planning the small ceremony for six months – with questions about whether the save the date cards were used to help throw people off the scent.

Under current Covid rules there is a limit of 30 guests at weddings – although the cap is expected to be lifted on June 21 – ‘freedom day’ – when most restrictions are set to be lifted.

With Mr Johnson pegged to be back at work next week, it looks unlikely the couple – who will make their debut appearance as husband and wife at the G7 summit in June – will have a honeymoon.

One-year-old Wilfred attended the wedding, as did two official witnesses. Ms Symonds shared a picture of their son yesterday in a field of bluebells – which some speculated was a nod to the tradition of ‘something blue’.

Mr Johnson’s sibling’s Rachel, Jo and Leo Johnson are also understood to have attended, along with his father Stanley.

The PM’s top advisers in Number 10 were said to be astonished that the secret wedding had taken place.
