The United States box office roared back to life on Friday as movie-goers flocked to theaters over the Memorial Day Weekend.

The Paramount Pictures movie was screened in 3,752 theaters and is on track to bring in a massive $57 million over the four-day weekend, with a $47 million gross expected over just three days.

The box office numbers are the highest recorded since the COVID-19 pandemic forced theater closures across the country last March.

It was a welcome sign for an industry that seemed to be struggling with an existential crisis as studios increasingly pivoted to streaming platforms over the past 15 months.

The sequel has been well-received by critics and it currently enjoys a 91% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
