Lisa McCune reveals she’s happily single at 50 but ‘pities the person I’m going to date next’

Single mother Lisa McCune has issued a warning to the next man who tries to sweep her off her feet.

The Blue Healers star, 50, who was famously pictured kissing her opera co-star while still married in 2012, told Monday’s TV Week magazine that she’s become fiercely independent since splitting from her husband.

‘I love my time. I pity the poor person that I may end up dating next, because I think, oh my God, they’re going to have to deal with me going, ‘No, I want to do this, and I want to do that,” she said.

The Gold Logie winner also explained that she’s become more assertive recently, and is no longer afraid to sing her own praises.

‘I don’t know what it was this year – I think it was lockdown that did that – but I just went, ‘Right, there is no wasting time now. What do I want and how do I go about getting that?” she explains.

‘As you’re climbing the ranks, there’s a certain humility that I think’s really important to have, but I haven’t got time for that now. It’s like, ‘Go!”

Lisa insisted there was no tension in the household, saying: ‘As a family, we’re talking a lot. I’m insisting everybody have dinner together.’

In 2012, Lisa was famously pictured kissing New Zealand opera singer Teddy Tahu Rhodes, her co-star in the stage production of the musical South Pacific.

The photos were splashed across the tabloids and dubbed ‘scandalous’ because she was still married as far as the public was concerned.

She made a conscious decision not to address the matter, and explained her reasoning to The Daily Telegraph five years later.

‘I was getting advice saying, ‘Make statements’ and I just thought, ‘No, I don’t need to, because it’s my life,” she said in March 2017.

‘For me personally, I have always been open and happy to talk about my babies when they were born and my marriage, and then I hit a speed bump,’ she added.

‘I went, ‘All of a sudden, this is not coming out in a positive way.’ And I rethought it.’

Lisa did not announce her separation from Tim when she was caught kissing Teddy, leading some publications to speculate the couple had an ‘open marriage’.

‘That gives me the giggles. I think the description [open marriage] is hysterical. It does make me laugh when I read that,’ she was quoted as saying at the time.

The intensely private star admires actors who keep their personal lives out of the headlines, such as Hugo Weaving and Sam Neill.

‘Every time I see them do something, I believe them because I don’t know who they slept with last night, and I really like that. I hate knowing that [actors] go to the gym,’ she said.

Last year, the How to Stay Married star also told the Herald Sun that living with three teenagers can be a lot to manage.

‘I have three teenagers who don’t particularly really want to hear anything that I have to say, they’re just interested in their friends!’ she said.

‘They have been spending far too much time gaming and watching series and their online life is very strong. And there’s complaints about how much internet we have got at certain times.’
