BAFTA 2021 Film Awards: Priyanka Chopra and Corinne Bailey Rae share behind-the-scenes photos

They haven’t had too many chances to slip into a glamorous ensemble this year.

And a host of celebrities ensured to make the most of the occasion on Sunday night as they went all out for the star-studded 2021 BAFTA Film Awards.

Priyanka Chopra led the stars in getting their glam on, sharing behind-the-scenes snaps of her hair being styled and enjoying a glass of fizz ahead of the ceremony.

Taking to Instagram, Priyanka seemed to be in great spirits as she had her hair styled into a chic up do, with two strands down at the front to frame her features.

The actress let her followers in on a little showbiz styling secret as she explained she was having dry shampoo sprayed on her brunette locks to add some extra texture.

Ensuring to up the glamour for the star-studded night, Priyanka added a slick of bright red lipstick as well as a touch of highlighter to make her features pop.

And once her stunning look was completed, the star enjoyed a celebratory glass of pink fizz while still dressed in her white bathrobe.

Priyanka later gave fans a glimpse inside the Royal Albert Hall, showing dozens of empty seats throughout the auditorium.

Corinne Bailey Rae also posted from backstage as she slipped into a very glam Duro Olowu dress and snapped a selfie ahead of her performance.

The singer looked incredible with her locks styled short and a touch of elegant makeup to complete her ensemble.

Others also indulged in a little pampering session ahead of the big night, with actress Maria Bakalova posing Instagram Stories from her Ritz hotel room.

The Borat star, who is nominated in the best supporting actress category, looked chic in a patterned collared shirt and pink mask ahead of her makeup being done.

The actress cut a casual figure in a white tank top and wide-leg trousers as she arranged her laptop set-up for streaming the event.

Leading actor nominee Mads Mikkelsen, who appeared in film Another Round, was another star taking things easy before the show.

He marked the BAFTA’s by posting a selfie while standing outside and holding his dog, foregoing the night’s usual black tie attire for a more laid-back hoodie.

The BAFTA and EE British Academy Film Awards 2021 is the first of the Academy’s film ceremonies to be held virtually.

The TV version of the awards show took place online during summer 2020, but last year’s film ceremony managed to go ahead a month before the Covid pandemic forced the UK into lockdown.

With the pandemic still raging, another change will take place this year: the BAFTAs will happen in two parts.

Both shows, recognising the very best in film of the past year, will be broadcast virtually from London’s Royal Albert Hall.

The first show celebrates the craft of film while the second main show will feature the mainstream awards.

Show one was hosted by Clara Amfo on Saturday night and saw eight of the 17 gongs awarded.

During the broadcast it was revealed that Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom won two awards: Costume Design and Make Up & Hair. Rocks won Casting while Sound of Metal won Sound. Mank picked up Production Design, and Tenet won Special Visual Effects.

The Present won the British Short Film award, while the BAFTA for British Short Animation was won by The Owl and the Pussycat.

The award for Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema, announced last month, was presented to filmmaker Noel Clarke.

Prince William, who is president of BAFTA, has withdrawn from this weekend’s BAFTA awards coverage following the death of his grandfather the Duke of Edinburgh.

He was due to feature on Saturday in a pre-recorded conversation with costume designer Jenny Beavan and make-up and hair designer Sharon Martin, talking about filming in lockdown and the craft of film-making.

On Saturday night, host Clara Amfo paid tribute to Prince Philip on behalf of BAFTA by kicking off the evening with a touching statement in his honour.

Show two is fronted by Dermot O’Leary and Edith Bowman from London’s Royal Albert Hall where the acting prizes will be given out. No audience will be present.

Both programmes are being broadcast in all major territories around the world and a total of 50 feature films received nominations this year.

Presenters will appear during the ceremony from both London and Los Angeles, but all nominees will accept their prizes virtually in front of a virtual audience watching from home.

Among the prizes announced on the second night will be the public-voted EE Rising Star Award and the Fellowship, BAFTA’s highest honour.
