French Riviera villa for £102million and a £47 million New York apartment most visited online

After a year spent stuck at home without the possibility of a holiday for many, it’s no surprise Britons are looking at international real estate as a form of escapism.

From a French villa with picturesque beaches on the doorstep, to a Manhattan apartment with skyline views and an Australian chateau with its own vineyard, property letting agency Mashroom has revaled the glamorous properties that are catching the eye of people in the UK,

It found a villa located on the French Riviera priced at £102million is the ultimate property fantasy for Britons, while city lovers turn to New York high-rises, with a priceless view over Central Park, marble staircases and open plan living spaces, available from £47million.

Looking through Zoopla, the research team identified the most popular dwellings in Europe, North America and Oceania. In Italy and Greece, seaside villas up to £22million are also a hit, boasting lavish pools overlooking the Mediterranean for some well deserved rest in the sunshine.

Mashroom found that 52 per cent of Britons had turned to sites like Zoopla in the past year to look at properties outside of the country and 16 per cent have admitted being addicted to ‘property porn’, with a third blaming it on the pandemic.

Fuelled by the popularity of Escape to the Chateua, France is the most-wanted location, racking up 7,000 searches from UK property hunters a month, followed by the US and Australia.
