Earlier this month, it was reported that Kerry is planning to move back up north so she can be closer to her mother Sue in case her ‘health declines’.

The former Atomic Kitten star, originally from Warrington, is said to be looking at potential new homes after spending a ‘long time’ thinking about the decision.

Kerry, who has previously spoke about her unconventional relationship with her mother, 61, has only just moved into a sprawling two-storey and four bedroom rented home in East Sussex.

A source told The Sun: ‘She’s looking at houses up north as her mum has health problems and she wants to move up there to be closer to her.

‘Kerry is an only child and wants to be able to look after her mum if, God forbid, her health declines.’

The source additionally told the publication that it has taken Kerry a ‘long time’ to consider the ‘big move’.

In March 2020, Kerry downsized to an east Sussex rented home with her fiancé Ryan Mahoney and her three children Heidi, 13, Max, 12, and Dylan-Jorge, six, after her eldest daughters Molly, 19, and Lilly, 18, moved out.

MailOnline contacted a representative for Kerry Katona representative for comment.

Kerry has previously spoke about her unconventional relationship with her mother and in 2018 her mum Sue revealed that she once gave Kerry drugs when she was just 14-years-old. The duo have since turned their lives around.

Last year, Kerry arranged for her mother Sue to celebrate her 60th birthday in style by watching 70s soft rock band Dr. Hook at Butlins holiday camp.

The former Atomic Kitten star wanted to do something special for her mum’s landmark birthday and arranged for the family to travel to the park in Bognor Regis, West Sussex.

However, the night of music had to be scrapped because Sue didn’t want to make the long car journey.

Writing in her column in new! magazine at the time, Kerry explained: ‘It was me mam Sue’s 60th birthday last weekend and I wanted to make it really special for her.

‘After all, 60 is a big one! So as a treat I booked us a trip down to Butlin’s in Bognor Regis to see the pop group Dr Hook in concert.

‘Well, mum can be a right kn**head sometimes and she refused to do the long car journey, so we ended up cancelling and losing the money on the tickets.’

Instead, the TV personality took Sue out for a meal in her hometown of Warrington, but Kerry struggled to get over her disappointment at missing out on seeing the band.

Kerry has previously spoke about her unconventional relationship with her mother and in 2018 the duo appeared on Good Morning Britain in a candid interview.

During the appearance, Sue revealed that she once gave her her daughter Kerry drugs when she was just 14 because she ‘thought it would be fun’.

Kerry, who checked herself into rehab in 2008 and 2010, and her mother Sue are now both sober after turning their lives around.

Sue admitted at the time that she gave her daughter amphetamines, under the guise of it being ‘sherbet’, and the pair subsequently bonded over regular drug-taking.

Sitting beside Kerry, Sue said: ‘Obviously, it’s not a nice thing that I’d done. It’s embarrassing, it was silly, it was dangerous, it was unforgivable. But I wasn’t in the right frame of mind. I can only say I was off my head.

‘When I’d done it, I worked in a pub and I thought it would be fun. She was my mate, not my daughter, and it was totally, totally wrong.’

As Atomic Kitten star Kerry hugged her mother reassuringly, Sue admitted she felt guilt for what she’d done: ‘I was scared for her. Really scared. And even though I was scared for Kerry, I was still doing drugs myself… I can’t even explain what it was…’

Stepping in to explain her mother’s past to co-hosts Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid, Kerry interjected: ‘My mum had a lot of mental health issues as well. My mum had a really bad [childhood]. I’m not defending what my mum did.

‘I would never do that to my children. But I broke the cycle. My mum had a terrible upbringing.

‘My mum had manic [depression], which they now call bipolar, my mum was a self-harmer, my mum was passed around from pillar to post. Again, I’m not defending anything.’

Seeing that her mother had become emotionally overwhelmed during her candid revelation, she rubbed Sue’s hand and whispered ‘it’s alright’.

Speaking about her unconventional relationship with her mother, Kerry continued: ‘I was the mum and my mum was the daughter. I always looked after my mum. There was something inside of me from such a really young age.

‘This is why I won’t change anything from my past. I always say to my mum, “Own it”, which is what I’ve done. I’ve made mistakes in my life, luckily enough my children have never witnessed anything.

‘But I’ll own my mistakes. And that’s what so many people don’t do. I’m not going to play a victim, I’m a survivor. I will take responsibility for what has happened because no-one forced me to do anything and it went out of control.

‘But I have to take some kind of responsibility, own it, learn from it and move on. And going through what I’ve gone through – what both of us have gone through – more so for myself – it’s made me who I am today. I’m not saying it was right what happened.’

Kerry, who has been sober for 12 years, has openly spoke about her bipolar disorder and addiction issues in the past. She checked herself into rehab in 2008 and 2010.

The singer’s troubled times are now behind her and she recently told MailOnline: ‘To still be in this industry after 22 years and still be offered to do shows. I feel really honoured.

‘It’s a testament to myself and I give myself a pat on the back. I’ve actually turned my life around and things like that.

‘I feel really lucky and really blessed that I hope people can take something away from what I’ve been through and what I’ve done. You can get through it all really.’
