Em Rusciano has claimed that she was asked to ‘be happier’ at work after suffering a devastating miscarriage in 2017. 

Speaking to The Herald Sun on Sunday, the former radio host, 41, says managers at her 2Day FM breakfast radio show at the Hit Network, tried to ‘police her tone.’

‘I was told to smile, and this happened after I had a miscarriage. I was also told I needed to be happier around the office,’ she told the paper.

‘They hired me because I’m a very honest, emotional and expressive person. They wanted that on-air,’ she added.

Em said that she does not miss radio, as, ‘My personality does not suit that environment’.

In May 2017, the singer announced the devastating news that she had suffered a miscarriage at 13 weeks.   

Em revealed that she had lost a son, who she’d named Ray, in an emotional Facebook post. 

She wrote at the time: ‘About 10 weeks ago I got the most wondrous surprise. I found out I was pregnant. I was going to announce it this Monday as we’ d hit 13 weeks, but instead I will be at home in the most exquisite pain I can possibly fathom.’

Em revealed she was pregnant again in August 2018, a month before announcing that she was quitting her struggling breakfast radio show on Sydney’s 2Day FM. 

The former Australian Idol contestant welcomed a son, Elio Arthur, in 2019. She also has two daughters, Marchella, 17, and Odette, 12, with husband Scott Barrow. 

Em announced her resignation from 2Day FM in early September 2018, telling listeners she’d be finishing up that week and would not be returning following the birth of her third child. 

‘Casual bombshell alert. This Friday will be my last day on air for 2Day FM breakfast, and I want to make it crystal clear that this is entirely my decision and not one I made lightly,’ she said on air at the time.
