Starting bids begin at £0 for Welsh three-bed home with two reception rooms (but there is a catch)

Starting bids have begun at £0 for a Welsh three-bedroom home with two reception rooms, a bay window and a garden plot. 

The property in the former mining town of Aberdare, South Wales, is just a short drive away from Cardiff where similar terraced houses go for more than £400,000.

Bidding for the house is set to open at midday on March 16 and close at around 5pm two days later, on March 18. 

However, despite auctioneers Paul Fosh already tempting several buyers, the house is said to need some updating and has a ‘relatively’ short time left on the lease.

Ryan Saunders, who is handling the sale, said: ‘There has already been strong interest in the property which I expect to continue on through to the sale next month. 

‘The reason for the low guide price is that the property is leasehold and has a relatively short time left on the lease. The lease for the property is due to expire in 2054. 

‘The new owner may wish to seek to extend the lease or to negotiate to buy the freehold of the property.’ 

The home will go under the hammer in an online auction on March 16.
