Nicole Kidman accidentally knocked Meryl Streep’s glasses off while filming Big Little Lies

Nicole Kidman has revealed that one scene between herself and her Big Little Lies co-star Meryl Streep got all too real.

Appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Friday, the Australian actress, 53, explained that she was working on the second season of the HBO series with Meryl, 71, who plays her mother-in-law, when an awkward incident occurred.

In one heated scene, Nicole’s character, Celeste, slaps Meryl’s character, Mary Louise, across the face – but Nicole’s aim was a little off, and she wound up slapping the glasses right off her poor co-star’s face by accident.

A horrified Nicole told Jimmy Fallon: ‘I didn’t want to hurt her gorgeous delicate face!’

But The Undoing actress added that the pair were deep in character when the slap happened.

‘We did so many takes. We were so into it, both of us, character wise,’ The Stepford Wives star went on.

‘We were kind of circling each other at the time. She’d sit in one corner and I would sit in the other.

‘When we came to do it, we did it a number of times. But I knocked her glasses off by accident. Because I hit her!’

That embarrassing little accident actually made the final cut of the program, Nicole told host Jimmy.

Nicole however clarified: ‘But I never hit her face. I am pretty good with that. I have done that enough now!’

There were clearly no hard feelings for the pair of professionals, who went on to co-star together in the 2020 musical comedy, The Prom.
