Speaking about the amazing achievement, Sally told
‘I didn’t believe it was real when I first found out earlier this month that I was to be given an MBE. Keeping it a secret has been so difficult.
‘The young girl in those scenes [on Coronation Street] 35 years ago could only have dreamed of the incredible things that were going to happen in the coming years.’
Sally also praised her colleagues on the show and everyone at charity Prevent Breast Cancer as she shared her gratitude at receiving the MBE, saying it was also for them.

Sally has been on the hit ITV show for the past 35 years – making her the soap’s seventh-longest serving star.
During her time on the series, Sally has had hard hitting storylines such as being a victim of domestic abuse, getting a breast cancer diagnosis and being wrongfully sent to prison for fraud.
She also thanked her husband of 25 years Tim and their children Phoebe, 25, who is the star of new Netflix series Bridgerton, Sam, 23, and Hattie, 16, as she celebrated receiving the MBE.
Singer Craig David is another well-known name set to be recognised for his services to music and be appointed an MBE.

Other famous names receiving an honour in the New Year list include EastEnders actress Nina Wadia, who plays Zainab Masood, who will be given an OBE.
Nadia’s recognition is for her services to entertainment and charity after she worked with Barnardo’s, a kidney research charity and two diabetes organisations.
Actor Toby Jones and Line of Duty producer Jed Mercutio are also set to receive an OBE for their services in the List.
Lesley Manville, who is set to play Princess Margaret in series five and six of The Crown, has been awarded a CBE.

Also getting a new title for the New Year is actress Sheila Hancock, who will become a Dame along with makeup artist Pat McGrath.
Sheila, 87, who has starred in movies such as Edie and Carry On Cleo as well as TV series The Rag Trade, received her OBE in 1974 and her CBE in 2011, both for services to drama.
While Oscar-winning cinematographer Roger Deakins, who has worked on Fargo, Skyfall and No Country For Old Men, will become a Sir.
Ahead of the awards being announced on Wednesday night, Craig David suffered a social media blunder when he accidentally revealed his manager had received an OBE, hours before the official announcement.

The 7 Days hitmaker, 39, posted a photo of his manager Colin Lester along with a sweet message at 10.30am, before swiftly erasing the message once he realised the New Year’s Honours List was yet to be released.
Craig wrote: ‘Congratulations to my manager, friend and business partner for being awarded an OBE for services to the music industry and charity in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours List. I am so happy & proud of you Colin! xxx’
Although Craig deleted the tweets, multiple replies to his message are still visible, with fans congratulating Colin on his incredible achievement.

Craig and Colin have worked together for more than two decades. Colin discovered and signed a then 18-year-old Craig in 1999.
