The Nolans have revealed they believe they have another sister who they are trying to track down after their father had a ‘fling with someone’.
Maureen, 66, said: ‘My mother told us that my dad had a fling with someone and we think there is a sister out there. Since then I’ve been intrigued so I’ve got in touch with a genealogist
Another one? The Nolans have revealed they believe they have another sister who they are trying to track down after their father had a ‘fling with someone’ (above L-R Maureen, Anne, Linda and Coleen Nolan)
‘We don’t want to ruin anyone’s lives but I would love to find another sister. We’ve had a DNA test done, so we’re just waiting. It would be interesting to know what she looks like or if she can sing.’
Anne, 70, said:’It would be interesting to know if she’s had breast cancer because then we would know it’s from our dad’s side.’
Anne is undergoing treatment for breast cancer while Linda, 61, has secondary cancer which has spread to her liver.
Anne said there was ‘light at the end of the tunnel’ and that she will start radiotherapy at the end of the month. She will also take Herceptin before having further treatment every six months for three years.
History: Maureen, 66, said: ‘My mother told us that my dad had a fling with someone and we think there is a sister out there. Since then I’ve been intrigued so I’ve got in touch with a genealogist’ (pictured with sister Bernie and parents Maureen and Tommy in 1982)
Linda is waiting for the results of scans after having chemotherapy, with sister Denise, 68, looking after her.
The Nolan sisters – Anne, Denise, Maureen, Linda, Bernadette and Coleen – formed part of Irish pop group The Nolans.
Bernie was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010. She underwent chemotherapy and a mastectomy and announced in February 2012 that she was cancer-free.
However, months later Bernie shared the heartbreaking news that her cancer had spread to her brain, lungs, liver and bones. She died in July 2013, aged 52.
Maureen added: ‘We don’t want to ruin anyone’s lives but I would love to find another sister. We’ve had a DNA test done, so we’re just waiting. It would be interesting to know what she looks like or if she can sing’ (pictured 1980s)
Since her tragic death, Linda and the other sisters have often spoken about how much they miss their younger sibling.
Appearing on Good Morning Britain after revealing her own cancer diagnosis in September, Linda said: ‘We miss Bernie every single day. I don’t think we’ll ever get over it. The first time I looked in the mirror when I had my head shaved, I saw Bernie looking back at me.’
And speaking of their loss on Lorraine in October, Linda said: ‘I once remember Bernie saying – we miss her every minute of every day – I do remember someone saying to Bernie, ‘Your poor family’. She said, ‘I’ve never said why me. Why not me?’
Tragic loss: Lead singer Bernie Nolan (left in 2011) died in July 2013, aged 52, after cancer spread to her brain, lungs, liver and bones
‘Three sisters having breast cancer, we’ve had the gene test, we don’t have the BRCA1 or 2, there will be a rogue gene somewhere that we’ve got, they haven’t found it yet.’
Linda added: ‘Bernie was a warrior. You’d say, ‘Do you want some water?’ and she’d say, ‘No, I want some vodka and ginger ale.’
Linda said: ‘People say to us, ‘Why do you talk about it so much?’ [It’s] our way of giving back to people… maybe if we can say something on TV or in a magazine that makes them go, ‘Oh, that’s normal, it’s ok to feel like that.’
Siblings Linda and Anne began chemotherapy at Blackpool’s Victoria Hospital in July.
They received news of their shock diagnoses within days of each other, shortly after the sisters returned from filming a series of The Nolans Go Cruising in March.
After the sisters received their heartbreaking diagnoses, Maureen moved in with Anne and Linda relocated to her sister Denise’s home.
Anne’s diagnosis came 20 years after she was first diagnosed with the disease in 2000.
While pop star Linda has also battled cancer before. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006, cellulitis and lymphoedema in her arm in 2007 and secondary cancer on her pelvis in 2017.
