It appears the Star Trek actor could be ready to return to the dating scene as he joked about still being considered a ‘heartthrob’.

He said: ‘A heartthrob at 89. How does it feel to be a heartthrob at 89? Well…it heightens my blood pressure!’

The film star married his third wife Nerine Kidd in 1997 and tragically found her dead in his pool two years later after she accidentally drowned with a mixture of alcohol and Valium in her system.

Writing in his 2018 book Live Long and…What I Learned Along The Way, William recalled how her death was extremely difficult for him to process.

He said: ‘My grief was overwhelming. This was the type of pain that makes you think either I’m simply going to die or I’m going to kill myself.’

Since his split from Elizabeth, William has been focusing on his career and recently filmed History documentary series The UnXplained, which looks at unusual phenomena such as aliens.

William played Captain Kirk in Star Trek from 1966 to 1969 and later reprised the role in several films.

The actor recalled the interracial kiss he had with co-star Nichelle Nichols on the series, mentioning that a TV station in the Deep South refused to air it at the time.

William said: ‘I was not unaware of the implications. Indeed a station in the Deep South didn’t play that episode. It was important and I was gratified to be part of that. I don’t understand any of this racism or antisemitism. It shocks me. We’re all basically the same.’

Along with hosting The UnXplained, the star has recently made appearances in shows including The Big Bang Theory and Private Eyes.
