The news broke Thursday that former White House Communications Director Hope Hicks would be returning to the West Wing in coming weeks, this time working under Jared Kushner as a counselor to the president.
More firings are also expected.
‘Administration officials tell Axios Trump feels he’s surrounded by snakes and wants to clear out all the disloyal people,’ Axios said.
The newly emboldened President Trump is trying to get rid of the ‘snakes’ within the U.S. government, according to Axios, by hiring back trusted aides who have caused him problems in the past
Among those aides is President Trump’s former body man John McEntee, who was fired from the White House in March 2018 as the Secret Service was investigating him for financial problems related to gambling and his tax filings
President Trump is also bringing Hope Hicks (left) back into the fold, this time as a counselor to the president working under Jared Kushner (right). Hicks left the administration in the wake of her boyfriend Rob Porter being fired over domestic abuse allegations made by two ex-wives
A week ago, Trump started cleaning house of individuals who testified before House committees, which led to his impeachment.
He removed Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman – and Vindman’s twin brother Yevgeny.
Both brothers did work for the National Security Council.
Trump also ousted E.U. Amb. Gordon Sondland, who also testified.
Sondland was a Trump political donor before being appointed to the European Union diplomatic post.
Trump has been emboldened by the U.S. Senate’s decision to acquit him on the two articles of impeachment approved by the House in December.
Hicks and McEntee both left the White House in 2018 and, at the time, were politically problematic employees for the president.
Hicks had become romantically involved with Staff Secretary Rob Porter, who was accused by both of his ex-wives of abusive behavior.
He was fired by the White House in early February 2018 once those allegations were reported on by DailyMail.com.
Porter’s first wife Colbie Holderness told DailyMail.com that Porter choked her and punched her in the face and had given her a black eye, of which there was photographic evidence. ‘It was not hard enough for me to pass out, but it was scary, humiliating and dehumanizing,’ she said of the injury Porter had inflicted her with.
Porter’s second wife Jennifer Willoughby told DailyMail.com Porter had called her a f***ing bitch. On one occasion, he grabbed her naked out of the shower.
During the height of the scandal, Hicks had helped then Chief of Staff John Kelly craft a statement in defense of Porter, a move that ‘deeply frustrated’ other staffers,
Kelly described Porter as a ‘man of true integrity and honor’ and a ‘trusted professional.’
