Two men arrested for human trafficking after ‘escaped woman’ claims they held her against her will

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of sex trafficking after a woman claimed they held her against her will and forced her into prostitution.

Roscommon, Michigan residents James Manford Jarrell and Jeffrey Allen Kobel, both 50, allegedly forced the woman to clean their house on Roberta Drive which hosted drug deals.

The woman finally escaped after several days but was arrested for stealing a car 3am on Friday.

She claimed to be a victim who had been transported north from Ypsilanti.

‘She didn’t know the men up north. She was very scared. She was nervous. She thought her life was going to end if she didn’t escape,’ Michigan State Police Lt. Derrick Carroll told 9 and 10 News.

The woman had initially tried to flee but was unsuccessful.

‘She had managed to get them to stop at a test area. Her plan was to escape but one of the men followed her to the restroom, waiting outside the door and then brought her back to the vehicle,’ Carroll said.

The victim’s claim of narcotics at the residence gave the police the opportunity to get a warrant to search the home.

After the raid by the MSP emergency support team, strike team investigative narcotics group (STING), MSP canine, MSP Houghton Lake Post and Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, the duo were arrested.

On Tuesday they were being held at Crawford County Jail.

Jarrell is charged with two counts of criminal sexual conduct in the first degree, and one count unlawful imprisonment. The charges are all felonies and the latter is punishable by 15 years and/or $20,000.

He was also charged with being a habitual offender, fourth offense and his bond was set at $100,000 cash surety.
