Diners attack Toby Carvery over £55 Christmas lunch ‘disaster’

An angry mother-of-six has slammed Toby Carvery for ‘ruining her family’s Christmas Day’ after she paid for a £55-per-head dinner for a family of 10 which descended into ‘chaos’.

Rachel Haynes said she booked the three-course festive meal for her large family to avoid the stress of making the meal herself, but was left furious when they were given dirty cutlery, overlooked by waiters and served inedible food.

Ms Haynes, from Dudley, said the experience quickly became unsalvageable when she was snapped at by a bartender so she demanded the full £550 refund.

‘As a family of ten – with six young children – we thought it would probably be less chaotic to go out for dinner this year,’ told Birmingham Live.

‘How wrong we were. From the moment we arrived, it was utter chaos. Our table wasn’t ready and the lady told us to go get a drink at the bar, which was hectic.’

She said that when she arrived their table was not ready and were forced to wait 20 minutes at a busy bar with the young children, before being seated at a table with dirty cutlery and no waiter to assist them.

Then, instead of the melon, prosciutto and balsamic glaze salad she ordered, she was served slices of melon with a few raspberries on top instead.

Becoming increasingly frustrated, Ms Haynes was further incensed when food they had not ordered arrived, and the food they did order was cold and ‘rock-hard’.

Ms Haynes said that, after complaining to the manager, they said they would skip the starters and go straight to the main course.

But the food she was served for mains only got worst, with ‘anemic’ pigs in blankets and no Yorkshire puddings.

When she complained to a bartender as there was no waiter around to assist them, she said she was snapped at and told to ‘ask your waiter’.

That was the final straw and the mother-of-six demanded a refund.

Ms Haynes said the refund processes took around 40 minutes due to the lack of coordination and said she would not be returning.
