Police board easyJet flight at Gatwick over ‘security threat’

Emergency services were called to check an aeroplane on the runway at Gatwick airport today after a ‘security threat was made against towards aviation’. 

Passengers have reported being stuck on the tarmac while security checks are underway on an easyJet plane that was travelling from Krakow to Gatwick. 

Joel Smith said: ‘Gatwick Airport stopped. Just landed but stuck on tarmac.

‘Flight captain says “due to a security threat made towards aviation”. Emergency services currently checking aircraft.’

He added that a non-specific threat was made to Polish police against easyJet and it was protocol to investigate the aircraft.

A Gatwick spokesman, Andy Sinclair, said the runway was closed for 22 minutes between 11.35am-11.57am. 

Three planes were diverted around the incident but were able to land at the airport. 

The runway has now been reopened and there no disruption is expected to other flights.
