Teen sensations Max and Harvey went up next, and took to the stage with their own version of Wham’s Last Christmas.

Thoughts: Louis went on to add, ‘You always push yourself, you can sing anything’, while Simon claimed she had ‘a real shot’ of making the final

Nicole told the duo that she didn’t feel the song was right for them as it was ‘too dated’ and didn’t suit them.

She explained: ‘It was a heartbreak song and these boys are heartthrobs, but you boys can sing anything… y’all can do no wrong.’

Louis blasted the remark that it wasn’t right for them, as he said the Wham! classic was ‘one of the most iconic songs in the UK.’

And as the screams of young girls could be heard around them, he went on: ‘It reminds me of my own days with Boyzone and Westlife, you are a great pop act and you’ll have a great career.’

Simon added: ‘It’s not about being the best sings, but what you guys are are an inspiration for kids your age, what you’ve brought to this competition is personality.

‘I think it was the perfect song for them because it was an iconic pop songs of all time, I think off the back of that you wont only get to the next round, but you have a chance of winning it.’

They delighted the judges with their fun and energetic performance, as Nicole said she was ‘here for the Max and Harvey phenomenon’ and claimed they were going to be ‘global superstars’ after the show ended.

Louis kept things simple, as he told the duo: ‘You’re driven, you put in the hard work, you’re charming, and you’ve never let us down.’

While Simon reminisced about the glory days of X Factor as he mentioned 2010’s season which featured One Direction, and said the pair reminded him of the now hit boy band.

Nicole told the quintet: ‘Girls what a great way to get us into the Christmas spirit, you sang one of the most iconic songs ever.

‘You sound amazing, your vocals get stronger and stronger each week, I love the costumes, you remind me of a mini Pussycat Dolls.’

While, with the same sentiment, Louis went on to add: ‘You’re in the final, you have something special, you remind me of the young Girls Aloud, the young Pussycat Dolls. You have the makings of a great global act.’

Simon chose a more tactic approach, as he said: ‘The way it works tonight is only three acts will sing a second song, and the idea that you won’t get to sing a second song isn’t great, you deserve it.’
