And Josh O’Connor has now revealed the preparation that went into becoming more like the Prince Charles for the role, including learning to ride a horse and changing his diet to be more like the Royal.

The actor, 29, joked that he has taken up eating lots of boiled eggs for months before filming in order to become more like Prince Charles, who apparently has a love of the food during an interview with GQ Hype.

During the chat, he joked: ‘What would you write that makes good headlines? Josh ate boiled eggs for months. I am eating quite a lot of them, because that’s what Charles does. He eats a lot of boiled eggs.’

As well as altering his diet, Josh revealed that he had to learn to ride a horse in order to mimic the prince’s habits correctly due to the fact he holds the reins in a different way.

The star said: ‘Most people have four reins here, then thumb on top. He puts the reins in between each finger. So I learnt that as well. I love that.’

As well as being able to copy Prince Charles’ habits, Josh has also had to delve into his psyche and look at the man beneath the title.

Revealing what he discovered, Josh said: ‘What I’m gradually finding is a guy waiting for his mother to die for his life to have meaning. His whole life has been in purgatory. Waiting for your parent to die is pretty messed up.

‘That the one person who should be unconditional is the person that holds the power for you to have any meaning in your life… it’s quite nice to play that. They’re huge stakes.’

During the chat, he joked: 'What would you write that makes good headlines? Josh ate boiled eggs for months. I am eating quite a lot of them, because that's what Charles does'

Although he has gone on to bag himself a career soaring role, Josh admitted that like many others he has struggled with his mental health in the past.

He said: ‘I work in an industry in which we’re all quite vulnerable, I think, to mental health. I was tearing my hair out. I didn’t know what to do and it probably wasn’t great for my mental health. It made me a bit insecure.’

To combat what he was feeling, he fled, finding sanctuary in a place he used to go to as a child, on the Hampshire coast. ‘One morning I just got in my car and drove there. I got to the beach, ran into the sea – it was freezing cold – and just lay there. When I got out, I felt like a new man. It was like a weird baptism.’
