Finger limes, grown in tropical rainforests in Queensland, Australia, contain a high concentration of vitamin C
A new face cream made from the flesh of an Australian fruit is set to hit UK shelves this month.
After scientists discovered the anti-ageing power of ‘citrus caviar’ – the tiny pearls of flesh found in finger limes which resemble fish roe – the fruit has become the latest must-have cosmetic for those trying to hold back the years.
Finger limes contain a high concentration of vitamin C – 44 times greater than the amount found in blueberries. Vitamin C is said to reduce the appearance of wrinkles.
The high concentration of acid in the lime also breaks down dead skin cells, apparently leaving it softer and smoother.
Boots will be selling Korean beauty brand Too Cool For School’s range of Citrus Lime moisturisers, which cost from £28 for 55ml. The cream was so popular with customers in South-East Asia, there was a 13,000-long waiting list when it first went on sale.
Finger limes, known as the ‘jewel of fruits’ thanks to the jewel-like moisture balls found inside their tough green skin, are grown in tropical rainforests in Queensland, Australia.

As well as the nine different types of Vitamin C, which occur naturally in the caviar-like flesh, extra vitamin B and six types of hyaluronic acid – the miracle molecule naturally found in the body’s joints, nerves, skin, hair, and the eyes and which can hold up to 3,000 times its own weight in water, have been added to the cream.
In tests, eight out of 10 women reported improved skin moisture within 24 hours of application of the Citrus Lime face cream, and 60 per cent of users said their skin felt less dry after two days.
Three quarters of women who applied the hydra eye cream also said they noticed a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles after just one week’s use.
