BBC 1Xtra live show descends into violence as man is slashed with a blade

BBC Radio 1Xtra’s live show has had to be dramatically called off after violence erupted in the Birmingham venue.

Police had to treat a man for a slash wound after an altercation backstage on Saturday night at the show, where Wizkid, Aitch and DaniLeigh were part of the lineup scheduled to perform.

1Xtra Live at the Arena Birmingham was called off because of what what the BBC have called an ‘isolated serious incident.’

Video taken at the venue depicts a violent scuffle in the concert grounds.

As music blares, women are seen being dragged along the floor while their legs flail in the air.

A woman wearing jeans desperately kicks someone away.

In chaotic scenes, bystanders are try to break up the tense situation.

As he speaks, a concert-goer can be heard shouting: ‘Where’s my money?’  

An ambulance and a police van are also filmed outside the venue.

West Midlands Police said they were alerted to an assault in the backstage area at around 10pm by the venue’s security.

Officers said the male victim, who suffered a slash wound, did not require hospital treatment.

A statement from BBC Radio 1 said: ‘Following an isolated serious incident, we have had to stop 1Xtra Live in Birmingham.
