A woman, whose baby died eight days after she was shot in the stomach while 34-and-a-half weeks pregnant, has recounted the incident where she was left bleeding in the streets after a man who invaded her
Andrew Nino and Kiara Paz, both 18, plus Alyssa Brianna Vega, 29, were charged with first-degree felony aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon after Desire Guardiola took a bullet to the stomach on July 20.
The victim had ordered her boyfriend to follow Nino – who held them at gunpoint while he stole drugs, money and an X-Box alongside a woman who Guardiola begged not to stabbed her- then she followed the assailants outside and yelled for neighbors to help.

‘As soon as I stepped foot out the apartment I started screaming for someone to help me that two people just broke into my apartment with a gun and knife and were taking my things!’ Guardiola told the
‘Still running I looked back to see if he was okay and then I heard a gunshot. I knew I had been hit because immediately I felt an intense pain spread throughout my stomach. I quickly covered where I felt blood escaping, the backside of my lower right abdomen.’
She held the wound and prayed until EMS arrived but knew it was bad news the moment she was wounded.
‘Right after the noise of the gunshot I could no longer feel Emery kicking in my stomach and I knew something was wrong,’ Guardiola continued. ‘In the EMS ride they tried to detect her heartbeat in which they soon found out wasn’t there. They called for an emergency c section an anaesthetist.’
Guardiola – who had worked at a Taco Bell in Austin for two years before the tragic incident – ended up delivering her daughter named Emery Skye via Caesarean after she was rushed to hospital, but she had bled for 45 minutes and the child was born brain dead.
Guardiola says she was preparing the home for the baby’s arrival when she was targeted
Guardiola lost a lot of blood and the baby was starved of oxygen in the 30-45 minutes she was bleeding. She was delivered five-and-a half weeks early and brain dead
The baby was able to breath for 30 minutes after being taken off a life support machine
The child’s father and other relatives were with Emery when she was fighting for her life
She has ordered the child’s father to chase the assailant who shot her outside her apartment
Emery was starved of oxygen after a bullet went through her mother’s abdomen, uterus and intestines while nicking some organs.
The infant had to be resuscitated after the C-section and was airlifted to another hospital where medical staff enabled the woman to see her daughter via FaceTime.
Guardiola was reunited with her daughter, who was unable to breathe unassisted or cry, and suffered seizures. The mother was fortunate to be able to bathe the little girl, change her diaper and be there for weigh-ins and taking her temperature.
But she and the child’s father had to make the heart-breaking decision to turn off the life support machine on July 28 but the mother made sure to baptize Emery first.
Guardiola labelled it a ‘miracle’ that Emery was able to breathe own her own for 30 minutes after being taken off the tubes but she then turned purple and passed away peacefully in her mother’s arms.
The woman’s mother and grandmother arranged the funeral for the child who they decided not to cremate after hearing it would take six month to get her body back from the examiner.
Desire said in a Facebook post about Emery: ‘Oh how I fell in love with the feeling of you and the thought of the woman you’d one day be’
Guardiola wrote about her daughter: ‘You will always be my blessing and I’m so hurt that you’re missing from my arms but you’ll never be gone from my heart’
The mother said in a touching message to her child: ‘You’ve impacted so many with your spirit and your fight baby girl ❤️ Play happily with all the other angel babies and the rest of our guardian angels’

The devastated parent continued: ‘You are ever so loved and you’ve been able to do things I as a woman was never able to do or never thought I’d have the power to do…. Bring people together to love and support one another and have an even stronger faith.
