Sean Spicer performs the salsa for his Dancing With The Stars debut, wearing a fluorescent blouse and white pants while playing the bongos and knee sliding into confetti.
The 47-year-old former-White House Press Secretary didn’t get the lowest score of the night despite his ‘out of time’ dancing to Spice Girl’s 2007 hit ‘Spice Up Your Life.’
The routine started with Spicer slapping bongos before a multicolored neon lighting set-up that read ‘Tropicana Club.’ What followed would later be described by judges as a ‘strangely entertaining.’
Performing alongside dancer Lindsay Arnold, the pair shimmied their way along the dance floor, Spicer often taken breaks to shake his shoulders and arms.
Spicer concluded the dance number with ‘the ultimate dad move’ when he decided to slide on his knees into a stream of confetti that fell from the ceiling.
Despite being far from a traditional performance, Judges seemed to universally agree that Spicer was ‘fun’ despite selecting such a shocking outfit. Ultimately they ruled that his performance was not great but awarded him 12 out of 30 points.

The lime green costume donned by Spicer was a far cry from the suits he would wear to press briefings while serving as White House Communications Director
Black and gold blazer wearing Bruno Tonioli, 63, kicked off the feedback by stating that it looked like his hips were ‘set in cement’ but apart from that he was ‘strangely entertaining.’
Despite confessing to having enjoyed the routine, he added that Spicer was ‘not at all on time or in rhythm.’
Judge Carrie Ann Inaba, 51, explained that she shocked by the way he approached the competition and that he was ‘ready for the dance.’
‘I will give you ‘the best fluorescent shimmy of the night,’ she joked before commenting. ‘You were offbeat most of the dance, but you were fun.’
Final judge Len Goodman, 75, closed by telling Spicer: ‘I admire your courage for coming on this year. You bought fun to the ballroom, well done.’

He later added that she had been ‘very patient’ with him and that he ‘had a blast’ during the performance.
During previews Spicer explained that it was a ‘very tumultuous’ time while working at the White House – as a montage of clips flashed onscreen.
He believed his time in office gave him a ‘one dimensional look’ and proclaimed that now he was ‘finally able to enjoy’ himself.
Spicer later joked that having the ‘leader of the free world on your side’ can’t be a bad thing for getting votes.
Prior to dancing, he grinned at the cameras as he unveiled the eye-catching outfit during the opening dance number of the show’s 28th season on Monday.
Celebrities including Karamo Brown from TV show Queer Eye, The Bachelorette‘s Hannah Brown and others, walked down to the stage in fairly modest costumes.
But not Spicer, who already appeared eager to make an impression and gleefully danced to the show’s first number with other cast members.
Spicer said he hoped to appear less ‘one dimensional’ in an interview prior to dancing. He believed his time serving the president was ‘tumultuous’

Spicer teased his shocking outfit ahead of the debut on Twitter, where he wrote: ‘I certainly haven’t forgotten and once you see the outfit I have to wear tonight you – even after lots of therapy.
‘Treat this like looking at an eclipse with a dot poked in a piece of paper.’
In response to his unusual costume, Ian Miles Cheong wrote: ‘We live in a simulation and the simulation is glitching. Here’s former White House spokesman Sean Spicer’
Wajahat Ali posted: ‘Sean Spicer got paid 6 figures for this. He’s also a Harvard Kennedy fellow. He also got a book deal. He was also laughing it up at a DC party for journalists the day before the White House Correspondents Dinner. All will fail up. It’s how this town works.’
Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee wrote: ‘Wanna create an emotional meltdown in Hollyweird? Vote for @seanspicer to win “Dancing with the Stars” tonight and every night he’s on.’
Accompanying his tweet was a GIF of character Napolean Dynamite dancing from the 2004 eponymous-named teen-comedy film.
User John Moffitt shared a meme of the vibrantly colored outfit along with the words: ‘When #SeanSpicer disappeared from the national view … I think we hoped he would just crawl off somewhere and hide in shame.’
Allie, who took a lighter view, wrote: ‘If Sean Spicer’s dance routine doesn’t involve him stopping in the middle to yell out “It’s getting SPICY in here!” then I refuse to watch the rest of the season.’
‘If #SNL doesn’t get Melissa Mccarthy to riff on this on the next episode, it’ll be the missed shot heard ’round the world!’ Margaret Lewis added.
The official Twitter account for the Democratic National Committee wrote: ‘A reminder that Sean Spicer lied repeatedly to the American people on behalf of Donald Trump and his administration. No amount of shimmying will change that.’

The pair appeared to laugh on Sunday as Slater posed with her arms in the air, dressed in a near see-through black outfit that barely covered her derriere.
Show producers faced backlash when Spicer was announced as a contestant on the ABC dancing competition – some stated it should be an ‘oasis’ away from politics.
But six-time mirror ball champion and current judge of rival show World of Dance, Derek Hough, 34, told
‘It stirs the pot… It draws attention. We’re curious, right? We’re just like, ‘What’s going to happen? How are we going to react? What’s going to happen?” he said.
Hough’s words followed-on from Dancing With The Stars’ host Tom Bergeron, 64, announcing he was was unhappy with the move to feature Spicer.
Bergeron called the former-Trump man a ‘political lightning rod’ but claimed his own role on the show was ‘to be Switzerland for those two hours a week.’

Spicer was reportedly seen grabbing a bite to eat before heading back to his trailer on Sunday, ahead of the show which stars tonight
Previously, he took to Twitter to state his discontent on August 21, writing that he believed the show should be a ‘joyful respite from our exhausting political climate and free of inevitably decision booking from ANY political affiliations.’
Bergeron added that it was the ‘prerogative’ of the producers and the network to select contestants based on the ‘best long-term interests of the franchise.’
He wrote: ‘We can agree to disagree, as we do now, but ultimately it’s their call.
‘For me, as host, I always gaze into the camera’s lens and imagine you on the other side, looking for a two hour escape from whatever life hassles you’ve been wrestling with.’
In response to criticism over his casting, Spicer told
He added: ‘I’m going to enjoy myself, and if more people like me, than that’s great. I’m very happy with who I am. I’m very happy with the friends that I have.
‘The idea that I need this to make myself feel better is preposterous. I’m in this because I enjoy it. I’m very comfortable with who I am, what I believe and who I support, and that’s it.’

After Spicer was announced on the cast list Tom Bergeron vented online but ultimately said it was the producers’ and the network’s decision
Spicer confessed to not having much experience on the dance floor other than ‘father-daughter dances.’
Speaking directly of Bergeron’s opposition he added:: ‘My hope is that he sees how bringing diverse group of people can help instill a greater degree of stability and respect among people in this country.’
