John Barrowman ‘set to replace Jason Gardiner as a judge on Dancing On Ice’

John Barrowman is reportedly being lined up to replace Jason Gardiner on the Dancing On Ice judging panel.

A source told The Sun that the actor and I’m A Celebrity star, 52, has delighted show bosses with his judging style, and they hope he will be a more wholesome addition to the ice panel.

It comes a week after Jason, 47, took to social media to confirm he would not be returning for the new series of Dancing On Ice, amid claims he decided to step down following his dispute with contestant Gemma Collins.

‘He’s a good fit for the show as he knows how it works and has done judging roles before.

‘They also feel he’s a bit more wholesome than Jason, who put a lot of noses out of joint with some of his comments. They think John will be a big success.’

MailOnline has contacted representatives for John Barrowman and Dancing On Ice for comment.

At the time it was reported Jason told friends he felt ‘stitched up’ by bosses’ decision to replace him with the Pineapple Dance Studios’ star.

‘It’s because of you I never cowered or shied away from serving up the truth.

‘Holly, Phil, Jane and Chris we created something we can be really proud of after the ice has finally thawed. We’ve had a lot of laughs, trials and tribulations and I have loved working with all of you.

‘To the unsung heroes, the pros and coaches, including Karen Barber, without your hard work we would never have had the success we’ve had, I salute and applaud you.

‘I am terrified and excited to announce I will be debuting my one man show at the Crazy Coqs at Zedel in January and February next year.

‘So if you want to find out a little bit more about me, because I’m like an onion, I have many layers and if you cut me I’ll make you cry.

‘Then book tickets, because I promise it will be an evening you won’t forget.’

Rumours were swirling that judge’s were searching for Jason’s replacement, following a series of rows with last year’s contestant Gemma Collins.

An insider told The Sun newspaper: ‘After the rows with Gemma last year, producers started to make quiet inquiries about potential replacements.’

Back in March, he apologised for comparing her to a refrigerator, and insisted he didn’t realise his remark had caused such a backlash.

He said: ‘Ignorance is bliss, I don’t know about this. I don’t engage on the social media platforms like that.

‘It’s something that I find gets magnified and distorted and people jump on a bandwagon. You can’t really buy in to it.’

When told his comments had been interpreted as fat-shaming, he added: ‘Oh god no. If people are taking it that way I’m really sorry. It was a way of diffusing any tension and making light of the situation.’

Gemma had previously hit out at Jason for ‘bullying’ her over his comment and announced she wouldn’t be at the final because she didn’t want him to be ‘anywhere near’ him.

Earlier this month, the TOWIE star, 38, said she thinks it’s ‘great news’ the BBC figure skating competition’s judge might not be back for the next series, following their spat during her run on the show earlier this year.

The Essex diva didn’t hold back when quizzed about Jason, who famously likened her to a refrigerator.

Appearing on Good Morning Britain on Wednesday, the Diva Forever star said: ‘Hallelujah! Let’s be fair, he only works twice a year in TV.

‘I think he does Dancing On Ice and panto. Would we miss him next year? Hell no.

‘People are watching this and probably thinking, ‘Oh she’s a bit strong’, but you can criticise someone but you don’t have to get personal.

Jason has rarely held back and has previously taken aim at fellow celebrities both on and off the show, before sparking a feud with Gemma he slammed Cheryl’s dance experience.

In the interview, Jason called into question Cheryl’s previous dance experience and whether it qualified her to be on the panel.

He said: ‘The judging line up on that is questionable as well…what’s her dance background? Where is her dance background?

‘She went to Royal Ballet School that you pay for, an extortionate amount to go to because mum and dad just want to drop you off somewhere for the holidays.’

But while the other four panelists praised her performance, judge Jason gave a scathing criticism of Miss Davies’ outfit – a brown sparkly leotard.

He told her: ‘You look like faecal matter that won’t flush, that goes around and around but doesn’t go anywhere.’

The campaign group Mediawatch condemned his remarks on the show which were aired around 8pm.
