Lori Loughlin is ’embarrassed’ and has regrets over the scandal, a close source said on Wednesday
Lori Loughlin has ‘definite regrets’ over the college admissions scandal and is ’embarrassed’ but believes she is innocent because she genuinely thought she was doing nothing more than making a donation when she bribed her daughters into school, according to a source.
Loughlin, who is the most high profile defendant in the scheme to have pleaded not guilty, is due to return to court in Boston in October.
She has not made a public comment since she was indicted and her legal strategy has remained a mystery.
On Wednesday, a source told
Instead of knowingly funding his operation, Loughlin thought she was giving a donation to the school for ‘a library or athletic field’.
‘Lori is remorseful, and she has definite regrets. She’s embarrassed and hurt, and she knows that her reputation has been ruined for life.
‘But she also believes the allegations against her aren’t true. She honestly didn’t think what she was doing was any different than donating money for a library or athletic field.
Not so contrite: Last week, the remorseful actress’s teenage daughter Olivia Jade, who benefited from the alleged fraud, returned to social media to flip the bird at the media for its coverage of the scandal and her family’s role in it
‘That’s the crux of why she pleaded not guilty,’ the unnamed source said.
They added that Loughlin has been ‘obsessing’ over every detail of the case and has been studying the papers for months.
‘Lori is ready for this to be over. They all are. At this point, it would be better to spend a few months in jail — because she’s been spending the last several months in her own prison,’ the source added.
Her reported remorse comes a week after one of her daughters, Olivia Jade, returned to Instagram to flip the bird to ‘all the media’.
Olivia posted a photograph of herself with both fingers up, tagged several media outlets including Daily Mail and captioned it: ‘#close #source #says’.
The source said Loughlin thought she was donating $500,000 for a library or athletic field to get daughters Olivia Jade and Bella (right) into the school
She was slammed as a ‘brat’ for the post.
Loughlin and her husband are facing 40 years in prison for spending $500,000 on bribes to get Olivia Jade and her sister Bella into USC.
Singer pretended the girls were crew stars to get them in when in reality, neither had ever rowed.
They have not been allowed to withdraw themselves from the school and are awaiting a decision from the school on what will come of them.
Other prominent defendants include Felicity Huffman.
She pleaded guilty to bribing her daughter’s way into a different school earlier this year and is now likely to be sentenced to months in prison or no jail time at all.
Rick Singer, the scheme’s mastermind, who confessed to taking Loughlin’s money and pretending to USC that both her daughters were star crew rowers to get them into the school
