The final straw in their union seemed to come when he allegedly attacked Rebecca on June 15, 2014 and was charged with assault and domestic battery.
Five days later, Borgerson, who has a 12-year-old son and eight-year-old daughter with his ex-wife, filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences.
The 43-year-old, who married Rebecca in Palm Beach, Florida, in May 2001, once allegedly threatened to her: ‘Don’t make me beat you in front of the children.’

Maxwell, 57, is in a relationship with Scott Borgerson (pictured) 43, and has been living with him at his secluded oceanfront property at the end of a long private road in Manchester-by-the-Sea, Massachusetts
Divorce documents obtained by DailyMail.com state the two were married in May 2001 before separating in 2014
The records paint a disturbing picture of the man who is now linked to Maxwell, a British socialite who is the alleged procurer of victims in Epstein’s underage sex trafficking ring.
Borgerson’s divorce with Rebecca was finalized in December 2015, but papers state
he had tried to reconcile with his wife that January – six months after he filed.
The two would separate again two months later.
‘During the marriage the Husband was extremely controlling and the Husband has continued to exhibit disturbing behavior throughout this litigation,’ court papers state.
Borgerson, 43, was ‘extremely controlling’, had an ‘alcohol problem’ and ‘exhibited disturbing behavior’ during his 13-year marriage to Rebecca Borgerson (pictured)
He was accused of having an ‘alcohol problem’ and one incident describes him being ‘blacked out drunk in front of the children’ in 2012.
His behavior allegedly took a toll on his daughter and son, who, once drew a ‘picture of alcohol and a cigarette’ while he was in preschool in 2011.
In another incident, Borgerson allegedly called his daughter ‘fat’ when she was only three years old, and threatened to hit their mother in front of them when she asked him to stop speaking that way around the children.
Rebecca claimed her son later began ‘hurting himself and exhibiting anger’, while her daughter began to wet the bed and became ‘withdrawn,’ forcing her to put the kids in therapy.
Borgerson had allegedly taken issue with sending the kids to get treatment and ‘repeatedly attempted to badger and bully the Wife to prevent the Wife from seeking both medical and therapeutic assistance for the children.’
Records also show the mom had a restraining order against her estranged husband which was later thrown out.
During the court proceedings, Rebecca had sought sole custody of the children saying she could not rely on her husband to make ‘appropriate decisions’ given his ‘history of alcoholism, physical and verbal abuse, and extreme controlling nature.’
‘The wife also seeks restrictions on electronic devices so the children cannot access inappropriate material, as the husband frequently looked at pornography throughout the marriage,’ the papers state.
‘The wife seeks alimony in the amount of thirty-three percent of any bonuses or other income the Husband receives over his salary, to retain her IRA, and an equal share of the Husband’s 2015 bonus.’
Before giving birth to her son, the mom-of-two was a human resources consultant for Mohegan Sun and later worked as a caregiver to an Alzheimer’s patient earning $20 an hour.
In court papers, Borgerson hit back at the claims saying his former wife was ‘erratic’ and used religion ‘in an extreme manner, especially as it pertains to the children.’
He claimed his children had referred to him as a ‘sinner’ and ‘that they see physical appearances of Jesus and speak to him, that they are fearful of the devil and will cast him into a fiery pit of sulfur.’
The revelations come a day after DailyMail.com revealed Maxwell’s new, low-key lifestyle.
The 57-year-old has been living with him at his secluded oceanfront property at the end of a long private road in Manchester-by-the-Sea, Massachusetts.
The British socialite has been loath to leave the $3 million mansion, a source told DailyMail.com amid heightened focus on Epstein’s alleged co-conspirators following the convicted pedophile’s apparent suicide on Saturday.
‘She’s become a real homebody, rarely ventures out. She’s the antithesis of the woman who traveled extensively and partied constantly with Epstein,’ said a source familiar with Maxwell’s new life.

Maxwell has not been seen publicly in around three years since she faded from the New York social scene she once reveled in with Epstein. In the wake of Epstein’s apparent suicide on Saturday, the spotlight has now swung to Maxwell, and other alleged co-conspirators of Epstein

Little was known of Maxwell’s whereabouts since she was last seen publicly three years ago as a multitude of reports claimed she had been living abroad, perhaps in London.
Her former townhouse on the Upper East Side of Manhattan was sold for $15 million in 2016, by a company with the same address as Epstein’s New York office.
The spotlight has now swung to Maxwell, and other alleged co-conspirators of Epstein, following the convicted pedophile’s apparent suicide in a Manhattan jail cell on Saturday.
Attorney General Bill Barr issued a stark warning to Epstein’s cronies on Monday and made clear that federal investigators were coming for them.
‘Let me assure you that this case will continue on against anyone who was complicit with Epstein. Any co-conspirators should not rest easy,’ Barr said. ‘The victims deserve justice and they will get it.’
Epstein, 66, was accused of arranging for girls, some as young as 14, to perform nude ‘massages’ and other sex acts, and of paying some of those girls to recruit others, between 2002 and 2005.

Maxwell and Epstein partied with Donald Trump and Melania at Mar-A-Lago (pictured in 2000) and threw lavish dinners at Epstein’s Upper East Side townhouse, attended by Woody Allen, Katie Couric, Chelsea Handler, David Blaine and Google co-founder Sergey Brin, among others
Epstein had employees who helped bring him girls, prosecutors have said, though none have been criminally charged.
Maxwell, 57, described as the ‘madam of the house’ by a former housekeeper at Epstein’s mansion in Palm Beach, Florida, has strenuously denied any wrongdoing but reports now suggest she may be ready to co-operate with the authorities.
However, following Epstein’s death, legal sources have said that many of those deals could now be off the table.
The socialite’s New England hideaway is an imposing three-story colonial property with five-bedrooms, wraparound terraces and sweeping grounds which reach to the ocean. The property is owned by tech CEO and maritime academic Dr Scott Borgerson.
Borgerson was seen by DailyMail.com in July running errands in the affluent community of Manchester-by-the-Sea, a half-hour drive from Boston.
Later, he was seen walking Maxwell’s dog on Boston Common near his apartment where he lives during the week while running his company, Cargometrics, an investment management firm that specializes in analyzing data on global shipping.
The former Coast Guard officer, is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. He was married and is believed to have two children.
Borgenson did not respond to DailyMail.com’s request for comment when first contacted, but following publication he claimed: ‘I’m traveling abroad for business. Ghislaine Maxwell is not at my home and I don’t know where she is.’
