Disney intern, 22, is left paralyzed after being hit by drunk driver in Florida

A college student who had just a month into her dream internship at Disney has been left paralyzed following a horrific car crash in Florida

Gabby Murillo, 22, was travelling near Orlando on June 15, when the vehicle she was in was hit from behind by a drunk driver at full speed.

At the time, Murillo’s vehicle was stopped at a red light, and the impact caused it to  slam into a concrete wall. Murillo suffered a fractured vertebrae and severed nerves, and is now paralyzed from the neck down.

The Connecticut native – who is enrolled at Gateway Community College – spent almost three weeks in intensive care.

Murillo has already undergone three surgeries and will soon be airlifted to a rehabilitation center in Georgia, according to NBC 4

Her family are being told that her first year of medical expenses will likely total more than $1million.

The drunk driver fled the scene before he was later caught by police. According to NBC 4 the assailant ‘was ticketed for careless driving with serious bodily injury.’

Murillo’s older sister, Amanda, told NBC 4 on Friday that the family have  been ‘devastated’ by the accident.

However, in spite of the mounting medical bills, she says she is still blessed to have her sibling by her side.

‘We’re just so lucky that we even have her with us,’ she stated.

Now, Murillo’s local community is now rallying together to help raise the necessary funds.

Her former high school principal explained to NBC 4: ‘Between renovations to the home, and a special vehicle, and a special wheel chair and the care that she’s going to require in order to have the best life that she can, it’s going to be really expensive.’

In addition to local events, a GoFundMe page has been set up and has already raised a whopping $101,940.
