While it remains unclear whether the couple will reunite, the source explained: ‘[Their] communication has been very minimal.’ MailOnline has contacted Shia and Twigs’ representatives for further comment.
The news has emerged just weeks after the former child star was pictured heading to Kanye West’s Sunday Church service with a mystery brunette.
Happier times: The actor, 32, and the 31-year-old musician were first romantically linked in September 2018 (pictured together in November last year)
Just days later, Shia and the same female companion enjoyed another outing together, with the pair treating themselves to lunch at Otium restaurant in Downtown Los Angeles.
Shia and the Fukk Sleep singer began dating just days after the actor confirmed he had split from his wife Mia Goth, 25.
The pair met on the set of his screenplay Honey Boy – written as part of his 10-week court ordered rehab stint, which hones in on his relationship he had growing up with his father. Twigs, real name Tahliah Debrett Barnett, plays Little Q.
In the upcoming movie, set for release in November later this year, Twigs portrays the role of an older woman who entrances a young character, inspired by Shia himself.
The drama film had a triumphant premiere at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and currently holds a prestigious 100 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, indicating unanimous approval.
Shia wrote the screenplay for the autobiographical film as part of his rehabilitation following a 2017 conviction for disorderly conduct.
He subsequently entered an anger management program and was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Pendulum hitmaker Twigs was previously engaged to Twilight’s Robert Pattinson in 2015, while Shia was married to British actress Mia, 25, from October 2016 till late last year.
Surf’s Up’s Shia filed for divorce in September 2018, two years after he tied the knot to the Nymphomaniac star during an impromptu Las Vegas ceremony, which was presided by an Elvis impersonator.
While LaBeouf claimed they were legally wed, the clerk of the court for the state of Nevada said no marriage licence had been issued in the couple’s name and said they had had held a commitment ceremony.
A close friend of Goth told MailOnline that Mia had ended her relationship with the Los Angeles native several months before he embarked on a romance with Twigs.
The insider said at the time: ‘Everybody in their circle knows that Mia and Shia are separating.
‘She’s spending her time between London and New York while he’s currently in London… Mia had been having some problems with Shia. It was a very crazy relationship and he is very fiery.’
‘She has told her friends that she can’t take any more. When he was preparing for a part, Mia would keep away from him and move out because his rehearsals were so intense’, they added.
Shia and Twigs’ romance was confirmed to MailOnline just days after he announced his divorce from his partner, with a source revealing at the time: ‘They are very happy, having a nice time.’
