FLOTUS approved dinner for Prince Charles and Camilla at the US Ambassador’s residence

He famously enjoys a well-done steak lathered in tomato ketchup, followed by one or two scoops of vanilla ice cream – and President Trump clearly thinks what is good enough for him is good enough for the future King of England.

Hosting Prince Charles and Camilla at the US Ambassador’s lavish London residence, Trump treated his guests at the black tie dinner to all his favorites, in a menu written by Melania Trump herself.

To wash down this very upscale version of steak and potatoes was a white wine costing $54 a bottle – compared to the $1,269-a-bottle served at Buckingham Palace last night – allowing tee-total Trump to raise a glass to royalty and toast Charles, before finishing the evening off with some well deserved ice cream.

And revealing a touch of knowing irony considering the administration’s battle with accusations of collusion with the Kremlin, the wine hails from Sonoma County’s Russian River Valley.

Guests at the black tie dinner dined on on fresh burrata cheese with heritage tomatoes, basil, and Maldon salt to start, then scoffed grilled fillet of beef with pommes Anna, watercress pure, celeriac and chantenay carrots at Winfield House, the US ambassador’s residence in Regent’s Park, central London.

Trump swapped his love for fast food burgers for the posher meaty dish as he and wife Melania followed the main with summer berries, homemade vanilla ice cream with Muscovado sugar tuile.

But the teetotaler would not have quaffed the Californian white ‘Heart of the Vineyard’ and red ‘North Block’ 2016 wines served throughout the evening at the residence of NFL New York Jets owner Woody Johnson.

He was seen clutching a glass of the white vintage but was actually sipping on a cola drink instead.

The wines were from the Iron Horse winery in northern California. The chardonnay was paired with the starter, while the pinot noir went well with the main course.

Brut Reserve ‘Joy’ bubbles – costing $275 and only available by the magnum bottle for the 2005 – were saved for the sweet ending.

The Ambassador’s wife and Camilla appeared to enjoy the hard beverages but FLOTUS wasn’t seen drinking the grapes of Sonoma County’s Russian River Valley.

The area is a play on Sevastapol in Crimea and is surprisingly affordable at $54 or under.

It’s perhaps more shocking than the nod to Russia in Trump’s visit to the UK which has been received with some controversy after Mueller report was released recently.

The Duke and Duchess smiled for photographs standing next to the President and First Lady as Mr Trump, in advance of the dinner this evening held to reciprocate for last night’s lavish banquet at Buckingham Palace.

There the Bordeaux Premier Cru served was worth around $1,269.

The mansion in Regent’s Park is serving as the Trumps’ base while they are in town.

Trumps and the royal couple enjoyed a ‘pre-reciprocal dinner reception’, then a ‘presentation of guest’, before the reciprocal dinner and finally the signing of a guestbook.

Press Secretary Sarah Sanders was one of the guests who mingled with First Daughter Ivanka Trump and British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt.
