James announced in October he was set to become a father for the first time.

Speaking to OK! magazine shortly afterwards, he revealed Sophie called him at 7.30am while he was filming scenes for the soap to tell him the good news.

And James certainly took the news well, telling the magazine that he was ‘over the moon’.

He added: ‘I’m so excited to be having a daughter; I can’t wait to meet her now.’

Sophie’s pregnancy came as a bit of a surprise for the loved up couple, seeing as the pair only started trying for a baby weeks before.

She explained: ‘We’d only recently said we’d properly start trying. And a month later we fell pregnant.’

But one thing’s for sure, the couple won’t be stumped when it comes to naming their bundle of joy, as the blonde beauty revealed: ‘We discussed baby names on our first date!’

James also revealed the first person he told his baby news to was his on-screen mum Kym Marsh, who plays Michelle Connor.

The lovebirds, who have been together since 2016, also opened up about the possibility of marriage, with the actor revealing he had come close to popping the question.

He confessed the pregnancy had taken priority over his plans to propose, but it was definitely on the cards.

James returned to the soap last December following a brief hiatus to spend time with his family.

Talking to The Sun, he said: ‘I’ve got a little bit of time off from work. I’ve got about a month and a half off. I’m going to chill out a bit and have some time with my family. Few holidays. Chilling out, bit of surfing.’
