As one of the most in-demand actresses in Britain, Bodyguard and The Durrells star Keeley Hawes seems to be rarely off our screens.

In a remarkably candid interview with The Mail on Sunday’s You magazine today, she reveals there is a reason why she keeps such a full diary – it helps stave off the depression she has long battled.

‘It’s something that never goes away,’ she says of her illness. ‘I think it is in your DNA if you suffer with it.

‘I have become better equipped at looking after myself. I’ve tried various things over the years.

‘Keeping busy helps, being forced to carry on, because inevitably it will pass,’ she adds.

The 43-year-old – pictured, far right, in her photoshoot for You – also speaks frankly about her bouts of anxiety, saying: ‘It’s a very human thing, isn’t it, to worry about what you say and how you are perceived?’

Her own image as a compelling and smouldering actress was reinforced by her captivating turn as the Home Secretary in Bodyguard.
