Danielle is the third black woman to grace the cover of Sports Illustrated as she followed in the star-studded footsteps of model Tyra Banks and singer Beyoncé.

The Sports Illustrated beauty showed off her model credentials on the beach as she added aviator sunglasses with a neon yellow frame to give her look an edge.

Of course the magazine cover girl kept up her glamorous swimsuit image by accessorising with gigantic silver hoop earrings and touching up her natural good looks with a neutral make-up palette.

Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue 2019:    A year of firsts

The 2019 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue is filled with ‘firsts’ and a level of age and body diversity never seen in the magazine before. Here are some the highlights this year:

Halima Aden, 21: First model to wear a hijab and burkini

Winnie Harlow, 24: First model with vitiligo

Veronica Pome’e, 29: First Polynesian model

Megan Rapinoe, 33: First openly-gay woman

Tyra Banks, 45: Oldest cover star. In 1996 and 1997, Tyra was also the first-ever black model to cover the magazine.

Paulina Porizkova, 54: Oldest model to pose in the magazine

Tara Lynn, 26: Oldest SI Swim rookie

Jasmine showed off her more playful side as she flashed the peace sign while making the most of the sunshine with her close pal and co-model Danielle.

Their beach outing comes as Sports Illustrated celebrates the release of its 2019 Swimsuit Issue in Miami which is a landmark with its most body diverse cast ever.

Models and stars alike descended on the Ice Palace on Friday to attend the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit On Location party which gave a nod to the new magazine.

The American sports magazine, which promotes all body sizes with its positive range of models, has been up for grabs since it hit the shelves on May 8.

Pregnant Samantha cradled her growing baby bump when she arrived at the event in a sexy strapless black bodysuit.

The model is excited to be expecting her first child and she is due to give birth to her baby in August later this summer.

Earlier this week, the mother-to-be enthused she had never felt ‘sexier’ while she modeled the same bodysuit in a snap on social media.

She wrote: ‘Never felt sexier than I do now. Creating a human has been one of the most beautiful experiences in my life. From watching my stomach go from flat to round and cellulite that I never had before appear, I really could care less because I know that this is the process to becoming a mother!’

In another first, 21-year-old Halima Aden will be the first Sports Illustrated star to model a hijab and a burkini in the latest swimsuit issue.

The activist and model revealed her goals to be a ‘game-changer’ in the modelling spheres as she vowed she will not change herself.

She told the publication: ‘Some people are not going to like me, some people are not going to like my journey. I accept that. I’m just going to stay true to myself. My whole motto is: “Don’t change yourself, change the game.” And that’s exactly what I’m trying to do.’

Halima got candid when she detailed what it is like to be kicked out of a pool and banned from the beach for wearing a burkini.

She added: ‘You don’t know what it’s like to experience being kicked out of a pool or banned from a beach for wearing a burkini. I want girls to see, no matter what sometimes you are going to get backlash from your own community. But you shouldn’t let that bother you.

‘And really, the fact that in 2019 a swimsuit creates this much attention… I mean, why are women still being judged for what they wear?

‘There are people that think I shouldn’t be [in the magazine] and there are people that think I’m not representing [Islam] in the right way. So I’m getting it from both sides.’

Plus size model Hunter, who also attended the Sports Illustrated bash, brought attention to the need for body diversity in the media as she threw her support behind the magazine.

She told Sports Illustrated: ‘All-encompassing representation in media is important for many reasons, the main reason being that the more we shed a positive light on any and all stereotypes, we increase the chance that they may be eradicated.

‘As a society we see ourselves through a social lens and because of that, it is imperative to see images each of us can relate to.’

Having first posed for Sports Illustrated magazine last year in 2018, the model also touched on the importance of showing off every inch of her curvy figure in an interview with InStyle.

She told the magazine: ‘I just do what I feel is sexy — it’s never about hiding anything. It’s never about “Oh, let me tuck this in, let me do this, let me do that.” I really want to showcase my body as it is. It’s so important that it’s prevalent in the images that are picked.’

In the past, Hunter has talked about how she learnt to love her curves after she had felt like a ‘punching bag’ for online trolls who commented on her appearance. She said: ‘I’ve come to a place of being so comfortable in my skin that I feel best like that. I’m like hell yeah I have these big breasts, hell yeah I have this cellulite!’

Among the catalogue of firsts for Sports Illustrated magazine this year, Paulina Porizkova joined the ranks of models as the oldest beauty to pose for the glossy publication at the age of 54.

Even though she’s proud to look her age, the model admitted she sometimes suffers a lapse in confidence when she has been branded a ‘wrinkled hag’ by online trolls.

‘I’m deeply offended on behalf of all of us women who are rendered socially invisible once we look a certain age,’ she said in an essay for SI. ‘While I am, at times, proud to look my age, when someone on social media calls me a wrinkled hag, I have to do a lot of slow breathing.

‘So I had to wrestle with the question: How do I feel about being the old lady in SI? Do they really want me—or am I here because of what I represent?

‘By hiring me, [editor MJ Day] had cracked open the door to another possibility: the visible mature woman. Or, let’s just say: the hot old lad.’

  1. Alexandra: But you are being critical about people YOU don’t know, or have never met, as their opinion differs to yours. Rather hypocritical. I like to read about the Beckhams as I enjoy a good laugh! So, I will continue to do so, continue to dislike them and continue to write whatever my opinion may be.

I thought that’s what free choice was all about.
