Vince Vaughn enters no contest plea to ‘wet reckless’ driving as 2018 DUI is dismissed

Vince Vaughn entered a no contest plea to wet reckless driving in a plea deal in his driving under the influence arrest last year in Manhattan Beach, California.

Prosecutors in the plea deal agreed to dismiss charges against the 49-year-old actor, TMZ reported Friday, who was detained at a checkpoint in the June 2018 incident.

The wet reckless designation indicates that while Vaughn had consumed alcohol, it was not enough to qualify for a DUI.

The Swingers star was initially charged with DUI, as well as driving with a .08 blood alcohol level or higher and disobeying a police officer in the arrest, as authorities said he resisted getting out of his vehicle.

All of the misdemeanors were dropped, according to the outlet.

The Break-Up star, a resident of the Southern California beach community, was not present at the hearing, as his attorney entered the plea on his behalf, the outlet reported.

As a result of the plea, the Wedding Crashers actor will be placed on a three-year informal probation; mandated to attend an alcohol education class; and pay fines that total near $1,700, according to the outlet.

It’s a break for the Old School star to end a strong week, as the U.S. Army said Wednesday that Vaughn will be honored with a medal at a ball next month for his efforts in support of the military, both on and off screen.

Vaughn, according to The Press-Telegram, will be given the U.S. Army Meritorious Public Service Medal June 8 at Long Beach’s Westin Hotel in front of a crowd of 400 soldiers and their family and friends.

The actor has past taken three tours with the USO and arranged for the troops to see advanced screenings, the army said, lauding his portrayal of Sgt. Howell in the 2016 World War II drama Hacksaw Ridge.

‘I’m always appreciative of the troops and all the sacrifices that are made,’ the actor told the USO in 2015, ‘and it’s always been important to me to express that.’
