The present owners have lived at the property since 1998 but they are looking to move now their children have left home.

Tom Shuttleworth, of estate agents Savills, who are selling the property, said: ‘This country house is steeped in history as it was leased by the Hon. Patrick Bowes-Lyon in 1901 and the Queen Mother is reputed to have visited his house on her way to Lingfield races.

‘It is a beautiful mansion with a lovely long driveway approaching it as you wind your way through over 14 acres of wonderful parkland.

‘The property has all the grandeur you could wish for but on a manageable scale.

‘It has been owned by a family for 21 years whose children have grown up in it but they have now flown the nest.

‘The owners have thoroughly enjoyed living there but have decided now it is right to move on.’
