Robber ends up having to be rescued by officers after climbing out 22nd floor window to escape

A robber who was trying to evade arrest by climbing out of a window ended up being trapped 22 floors above the ground in China.

Police officers broke into the man’s apartment after identifying him as the suspect in a store robbery in Yiyang, Hunan province. 

Video footage of the dramatic arrest shows the suspect desperately clinging onto the windowsill on the side of the building while struggling to balance himself on a narrow ledge.

Minutes later, the man gave up and was rescued back into the flat by police officers.

He had been wanted for robbing the owner of a local shop with a knife on March 24. He stole her her bank card and withdrew 10,000 yuan (£1,140) from her account, according to Jiangsu Broadcasting Corporation. 

Following three days of investigation, local police located the man’s flat and arranged the arrest.

They had also recovered the shop owner’s bank card, the suspect’s clothes and the knife used in the robbery from a drain.

After serving another prison sentence in 2017, the man wanted to use the money he had robbed to start a business with his friend, an officer said

The man is currently in police custody and the case is under investigation, the report added.  

According to an officer, the man was previously jailed for three years for a robbery in 2003. Five years later, he was placed in rehab for three months after being caught using drugs. 

After serving another prison sentence in 2017, the man wanted to use the money he had robbed to start a business with his friend, the officer said.
