Jordan Fisher is playing John Ambrose McClaren in To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before sequel

The sequel of Netflix‘s popular teen romcom To All the Boy’s I’ve Loved Before has some crucial casting in place — and fans are naturally incredibly passionate about the decision.

On Thursday evening, Netflix announced that John Ambrose McClaren — a recipient of one of Lara Jean Covey’s love letters in the first film, who competes with Peter Kavinsky for her affections in the sequel — will be played by 24-year-old Jordan Fisher.

Jordan, a singer who recently starred as Mark Cohen in Fox’s Rent Live, has quickly won over swooning fans.

The casting announcement was made via a Twitter video that Jordan shared on Thursday.

In it, Lana Candor (who plays Lara Jean) says she is on the set of the sequel and ready to share some exciting news — before walking up the steps of a trailer with John Ambrose’s name.

The door opens to reveal Jordan standing inside.

‘P.S. I’m John Ambrose McClaren! Look out, LJ,’ the star tweeted.

The video was met with a warm reception, including from author Jenny Han, who wrote the books that the Netflix movies are based on.

‘At last… I can follow back @jordan_fisher on social media. Ladies and gentlemen, our John Ambrose McClaren! #psistillloveyou,’ she tweeted.

Fans of the series — which actually has three books, including P.S. I Still Love You and Always and Forever, Lara Jean — are thrilled as well.

‘How do they expect me to root for peter kavinsky when JORDAN FISHER PLAYS JOHN AMBROSE?’ asked another.

‘Jordan fisher is shaking the table as john ambrose my god they really expect us to root for kavinsky after this??’ tweeted a third.

‘I can’t root for Peter when Jordan Fisher is playing John Ambrose. I just can’t,’ lamented a fourth.

Though Twitter is showcasing endless evidence of fan excitement, not everyone is thrilled with the casting — though not necessarily because they have anything against Jordan.

Rather, they’ve pointed out that the character John Ambrose McClaren actually appeared briefly in the first film — and was portrayed by another actor.

Fans of actor Jordan Burtchett, who noticed his speedy appearance during the credits, are upset that he will not be reprising the role in the next film.

‘If @JordanBurtchett doesn’t play john ambrose… I don’t want it SIR,’ wrote one.

‘Unpopular opinion: i can’t get behind the the ps i still love you movie if they recast john ambrose mcclaren — jordan burtchett delivered as our john ambrose and we only saw him on the screen for 0.5 seconds,’ tweeted another.

And a third wrote: ‘HOW DARE YOU? JORDAN BURTCHETT WAS THE PERFECT JOHN AMBROSE.’

Meanwhile, it appears all of the other actors will be reprising their roles in P.S. I Still Love You.

When Netflix made the sequel announcement, they promised Lana and Noah Centineo were on board.

And last week, the Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Anna Cathcart, Janel Parrish, and John Corbett, who played Lara Jeans sisters and dad, were back as well.

They also revealed that Michael Fimognari, who was the director of photography on the first film, will serve as director on the sequel. Susan Johnson, who directed the first, will now be executive producer.
