Sam Reece EXCLUSIVE: Emmerdale newbie discusses his mental health struggles

Sam Reece has candidly discussed his battle with mental health while also gushing over his new romance in an exclusive chat with MailOnline.

Following the death of Love Island star Mike Thalasstis earlier this month, the conversation surrounding male mental health has become increasingly prominent, with the 26-year-old reality star-turned-actor admitting he himself has struggled.

As well as discussing his issues, he also gushed over Rachel and hit out at his love rat ex Stephanie Davis, who cheated on him with Jeremy McConnell in the Celebrity Big Brother house in 2016 before they had a baby.

Sam rose to prominence when he publicly split from cheating girlfriend Stephanie, and has gone on to star in reality TV series Ex On The Beach.

He has revealed he’s trying his hand at acting as he’s landed a role in soap series Emmerdale yet admitted he never thought about pursuing a career in drama before the gig, which came about after he sent producers a three-line audition clip.

While his career is moving on leaps and bounds, he admits he struggled with mental illness in the past yet worked hard to battle his issues.

Sam spoke candidly about his own struggle with mental health, revealing to MailOnline that he sought out counselling for depression last year.

‘I didn’t know why I was so down, and talking to someone about how I was feeling made a massive difference.

‘It’s important to speak to family and friends when you’re having a tough time, but sometimes talking to someone you know can work too.

‘With everything that’s happened recently and the sad death of Mike Thalassitis, it’s more important than ever to raise awareness of mental health struggles, especially for men.’
