Pink announced as first international winner of BRIT Awards Outstanding Contribution To Music gong

Pink is set to make history at this year’s BRIT Awards after being named as the winner of the Outstanding Contribution To Music gong.

The singer, 39, will become the first international winner to receive the recognition, which has previously been won by the likes of Queen, Spice Girls and Blur.

Pink, whose real name is Alecia Moore, will also be the first female solo artist to ever be awarded the accolade.

Speaking of her win, she said: ‘I am so honoured to be recognised with the Outstanding Contribution To Music Award at the 2019 BRITs.

‘Since the beginning of my career the British fans have been some of the most fierce and loyal in the world. I am humbled to receive this honour and be in the company of an illustrious group of British icons.’

Chairman Sony Music Jason Iley added: ‘Pink is a trailblazer, a phenomenally talented singer and songwriter, and truly one of the greatest artists of our time.

‘It is a real pleasure to honour her at this year’s BRIT Awards with the Outstanding Contribution To Music Award.

He added: ‘I am really excited to welcome her back to The BRITs and to recognise her prodigious success.’

The singer’s recognition comes as she is set to release her new single Walk Me Home this month.

The song is taken from her eighth album Hurts To Be Human, which will be released in April.

Pink joins an illustrious list of previous BRIT Awards Outstanding Contribution to Music recipients including Sir Elton John, David Bowie, Queen, Spice Girls, U2, Sir Paul McCartney, Oasis, Robbie Williams and Blur.

The award was rested in 2013 to make way for a Special Recognition for War Child to mark the charity’s 20th anniversary.

Pink will be the first international artist to receive the honour, a decision taken by The BRITs committee to open the award up to overseas acts who have achieved long term success in the UK.

The singer will be awarded in recognition of her significant impact on British music and her  musical repertoire over the past two decades, BRIT bosses say.

Her latest achievement comes after she received her own star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame on Tuesday.

The What About Us hitmaker will perform at the ceremony, which takes place at London’s O2 on Wednesday February 20.
