Kerry Katona performs to a half-empty room at panto in Cheshire

Kerry Katona performed to row-upon-row of empty seats when she appeared in the opening night of her panto at the Northwich Memorial Court Theatre on Sunday.

The 38-year-old is one half of the wicked step-sisters alongside Heartbeat’s Tricia Penrose in the theatre’s annual pantomime Cinderella, which runs from December 9 to 31.

In pictures obtained by MailOnline, there were embarrassingly large gaps in the Cheshire-based auditorium, which accommodates 500 people seated, for the show’s opening night.

However, the lack of audience members, who paid £12 for a ticket, did little to deter Kerry from giving her performance all she had.

The reality star appeared on stage opposite X Factor’s Lloyd Daniels as Prince Charming in a pink tartan jacket with faux fur trim and matching long skirt.

Staying dedicated to her craft, she donned a cropped neon pink wig while she pulled a number of animated faces towards the crowd.

In another scene, the mother-of-five kept to her character’s pink theme and donned a pair of silk striped pantaloons with a complementing corset and leopard print dress gown.

Despite the half-empty room a spokesperson for AB Production countered claims that the venue was half-empty and told MailOnline that the theatre was ‘fuller’ once the show started.

They added: ‘We are experiencing record breaking sales this year and are extremely happy with the box office.’ MailOnline have contacted Kerry Katona’s rep for comment.

Speaking to Northwich Guardian in October, Kerry revealed that taking on a villainous role was more ‘draining’ then she once thought – although she said it was the ‘perfect job’.

‘I did the villain last year and to be honest it’s a lot more draining,’ she said. ‘You have to put much more into it as you’ve got to change your voice and everything you do is more exaggerated.

‘But on the plus side you don’t have to worry about looking good. You just turn up looking a mess for work. It’s the perfect job.’

It isn’t the first time Kerry’s panto appearance has been struck . Last year, Kerry was forced to briefly pull out of her villainous pantomime role after being struck down with pharyngitis.

The former Atomic Kitten singer, who played the Evil Queen in Sleeping Beauty at the Middleton Arena, was forced to stay at home due to inflammation at the back of her throat.

At the time, the weary star had previously told fans she could ‘barely speak’ and was then prescribed antibiotics to help nurse her back to health.

She wrote on Instagram: ‘A big thank you to the most amazing cast for yesterday’s show as I have Pharyngitis and was unable to perform! But back today on antibiotics!’

Her stage appearance comes as she has been confirmed for the new series of E4 dating show Celebs Go Dating.

The much-loved reality series sees famous faces enlist the help of a dating agency in their bid to find love, with the celebrities dating ordinary members of the public.

Kerry will star in the upcoming series, set to air in 2019, alongside TOWIE star Pete Wicks, his ex-girlfriend and co-star Megan McKenna, Ibiza Weekender’s David Potts, Love Island’s Georgia Steel and Hollyoaks star Chelsee Healy.

Speaking ahead of the show, the former Atomic Kitten star said: ‘I’ve never done anything like this before.

‘If what I’ve been doing before hasn’t been working I may as well try something new! I’ve been on dating apps but to be honest they didn’t work. I’m so excited to be joining the agency and see who Anna and Paul set me up with!’

Kerry is undoubtedly the biggest signing to the show, with her chequered romantic history set to delight audience members following her many tried and failed stabs at love.
