Mutiny erupted amid the building of a ‘new future’ by Rick Grimes on Sunday’s episode of The Walking Dead.
Aaron [Ross Marquand] had his arm crudely amputated by Carl’s former girlfriend Enid, but the only casualties this week were zombies.
The episode titled The Bridge opened with a monologue from Rick, who was hopeful for the future on day 35.

‘It wasn’t long ago that we were fighting just to stay alive, but it’s not like that anymore, we’re building, we’re growing,’ he said.
‘We’re getting back a piece of who we used to be…we’re making a new beginning,’ he added proudly.
The communities joined forces to restore a bridge, to facilitate communication and trade.
Carol [Melissa McBride] and King Ezekiel’s romance was blossoming, despite her decision to head back to the Sanctuary.

‘This is just goodbye for now, I’m not giving up my fairy tale,’ he told her.
Ezekiel [Khary Payton] who had unsuccessfully proposed to Carol in last week’s show, then brought out the ring once more.
‘I’m not saying yes, I thought I’d just try it on,’ she said as he attempted to drop to one knee before Carol stopped him.

‘But,…I had a whole speech,’ he protested.
‘I’m sure you did, and you can read it to me later,’ she replied.
Michonne [Danai Gurira] was trying to bulk up their dwindling supplies, but they were short of fuel for their tractor to plow the fields.

Earl [John Finn] had been locked up for a month, for treacherously attempting to murder Hilltop’s leader Maggie [Lauren Cohan].
‘You didn’t hang him like you did Gregory, there must be a reason for that,’ Michonne told Maggie referencing the execution of the plot mastermind.
‘If keeping him locked up means that crops don’t get planted then it’s not just him that gets punished,’ she warned.
Earl’s wife Tammy whose son Ken recently died begged Jesus for visitation rights.
Visitation rights: Tammy was seeking visitation rights to see Earl after he tried to kill Maggie
‘I’ve got no one else,’ she complained.
‘He tried to kill Maggie, he tried to kill her,’ protested Jesus, who then persuaded Maggie to bring them together.
Earl told Maggie about his long struggle with alcoholism then asked: ‘Why did you hang Gregory and not me?’

After hearing his story Maggie decided to release Earl so he could work ‘under supervision.’
‘You know my daddy drank, he was a good man,’ she told Michonne.
‘Some people can be redeemed, but others can’t,’ Maggie added with gravitas.
When a Savior called Justin [Zach McGowan] tried to take more than his quota of water young Henry [Macsen Lintz] knocked him over with a stick.

As the Savior tried to attack Henry, Daryl [Norman Reedus)]stepped in to defend the boy.
They fought viscously on the semi-constructed bridge, until Rick rushed in to break it up.
‘Go back to work,’ he commanded.

‘So this a**hole just gets away with it?’ Daryl huffed to Rick.
‘Are we on the same side Rick?’ asked Daryl ominously.
‘Maybe for some of them, they’re just not ready for it,’ suggested Carol, who suspected mutiny brewing.
Fight over: Rick ran over and broke up the fight as he ordered everyone back to work
An explosion caused hoards of walkers to flock toward the workers at the bridge.
While Daryl took out a few zombies Aaron’s arm was crushed under a huge log.
Carl’s former girlfriend Enid [Katelyn Nacon] decided that his arm had to be amputated immediately.

Log injury: Aaron suffered a severe arm injury when a log tumbled and pinned his limb
Close call: Daryl and Aaron narrowly escaped the zombies
Daryl then brutalized Justin for not being on his radio to save the crew.
Carol stepped in to prevent Justin being killed, but Daryl was furious.
‘There’s only one way to deal with these a**holes,’ he decided.
Taking charge: The skilled hunter used whatever he could to stop the zombies
Emergency surgery: Enid decided that she had to amputate Aaron’s arm to save his life
Rick had flattened a slew of the zombies with the rest of the tree trunks.
Justin was scolded by Rick and then banished.
‘You pack your s*** and get out of here first thing in the morning, if I see your face again stitches won’t fix what I do to you,’ said Rick.
Kicked out: Justin was confronted by Rick who banished him from their community
Aaron was gracious to Rick after his amputation.
‘It was worth it…when the dead started to rise I thought that was the end of everything, but you changed all that Rick,’ he whispered from his gurney.
Meanwhile, Father Gabriel [Seth Gilliam] and Anne [Pollyanna McIntosh] were embarking on a steamy love affair.

Making out: Anne and Father Gabriel passionately kissed while he was on guard duty
After the ‘tough day’ the project was behind schedule, but Rick remained positive as he delivered another monologue.
‘No matter what happens it’s human nature to come together, that’s just what we do,’ he said as viewers learned that he was addressing Negan [Jeffrey Dean Morgan].
‘When it finally goes to s***, and it will, make sure you come back and you tell me all about that day,’ Negan replied.
Coming together: Rick during another monologue talked about their ‘tough day’ while remaining positive
Rick promised that he’d die behind bars.
‘We’re building a future,’ he said.
‘Building it for who? For Carl? Your family’s gone Rick,’ replied Negan as he taunted Rick over his dead son.
Behind bars: Negan listened as Rick talked about ‘building a future’ and then mocked him for it
‘That bridge, it’s not the future, it’s a monument to the dead, you’re not saving the world Rick, you’re just getting it ready for me,’ he growled.
As the episode closed Anne seemed to think that she heard that long-awaited helicopter.
As Justin drunkenly left the construction site he was startled by the sudden appearance of a mystery person.

‘You damn near got yourself killed,’ he said, just before he was attacked.
A sneak peek of next week’s episode revealed more mutiny within the ranks.
The Walking Dead returns next week on AMC.
