It seems as though Australia turned on Nick ‘The Honey Badger’ Cummins when he left The Bachelor without a partner, dumping both finalists.
And now the 31-year-old has appeared on The Project a second time to defend his actions.
In a pre-recorded interview, the former Wallabies star joined the hosts at the desk and revealed that he wasn’t in love with any of the contestants and didn’t want to fake it for the cameras.

He told the panel: ‘ I thought, “I can avoid a whole lot of drama, for me for the girls, and just pick someone”. Or I could just be honest.
‘She’d be sitting here now and I’d be asked if you’re in love. I didn’t want to lie,’ he said.
He added: ‘It’s not fair to her. Going down that path three months, only to break her heart.’

The athlete says that he didn’t feel any of the relationships he formed were strong enough to survive the inevitable scrutiny after the show ended.
‘I don’t want to put her through all that and crap. All this pressure gets put on the relationship,’ he said.
Nick however did admit he had ‘dark moments’ where he wondered if he had made the right choice.
Shocked: Turning to the camera, the former footballer also had a personal message for spurned finalists Brittany Hockley and Sophie Tieman
Speaking out: ‘Britney and Sophie, you know I care for you and I said this so many times throughout the show,’ an emotional Nick confessed. Nick is pictured with Sophie Tieman
Not sure? ‘I did question my decision. It was a moment of darkness where I thought I should have just picked one of these girls,’ he told the show. Nick is pictured with Brittany Hockley

It comes after Nick hinted on social media that he had less say over what happened on the show than viewers might believe.
On Instagram, a fan asked why the former Wallabies star never expressed his feelings on The Bachelor.
‘The only thing I felt sad about Lisa [Wilkinson] was that he expected the girls to be open about their feelings for him but he didn’t give them the same privilege…,’ the fan wrote.
Nick responded: ‘If i was allowed to tell them, the show would be very different.’
